Katherine Tucker, 93

Katherine Tucker, 93, of Wahpeton, N.D., formerly Tintah, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge.

Katherine was born in a small three-room house in Tintah, on July 28, 1914, the youngest of nine children of Oliver and Alice (Flynn) Tucker. She grew up in Tintah and attended “Sister School” there for the first eight grades.

She then went on to graduate from Tintah High School. Katherine went to St. Alexis Hospital in Bismarck, N.D., for nurses training. After receiving her RN degree she worked in Chicago and California.

During World War II, Katherine entered the U.S. Army and served as a field nurse serving close to the front lines in Germany, Africa, Morocco, Italy and France. Katherine took part in the Berlin Airlift.

After the war, she received the title of First Lieutenant and after she received her bachelor's degree from Drury College in Springfield, Mo., she was classified as Lieutenant Commander. When she returned from the war, she joined Public Health, serving in Chicago, Springfield, Mo., and Seattle, Wash.

In 1965, Katherine moved back to Tintah to live and care for her mother. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, family get-togethers. She especially enjoyed owning and living in the home that her father built in 1914 in Tintah.

Katherine was a strong believer in her Catholic faith all of her life.

Katherine is survived by her sister, Eleanor Glock at St. Francis Home, Breckenridge; her nieces and nephews, Charlie Glock, John (Jan) Glock, Frances Klima, Catherine Glock, Carol (Larry) Cooper, John, James, and Joe Nicholson, Jane Worsley, Mary Alice Kaul, James Zimmerman and Tom Tucker.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Oliver and Alice Tucker, her sisters and brothers, Mary Haas; Sr. Alicene Tucker, OSB; Fr. Dunstan Tucker, OSB; Cecelia Zimmerman, Winifred Nicholson, Charlie Tucker, John Tucker.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Gall's Catholic Church, Tintah

Clergy: Father Andrew Marthaler

Burial: St. Gall's Catholic Cemetery, Tintah
