Maurice Greeley, 81

1925 - 2008

Maurice “Lyle” Greeley, 81, formerly of Elbow Lake, died Wednesday, April 9, 2007, at his home in Sunrise Cottages in Rochester.

Maurice Lyle Greeley was born July 12, 1925, in Watkins. He grew up in Elbow Lake and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in June 1943.

During World War II, he joined the Navy and served his tour of duty in the Pacific Theater as a gunner’s mate with the amphibious forces.

On May 19, 1946, Lyle married Lena Weigand in Wendell; they were later divorced.

He lived in Elbow Lake during the 1950s and 1960s and operated an accounting and business service. Lyle was active in the Lutheran church and Masonic Lodge and was a member of the city council for several years.

He moved to Rochester and was engaged in the accounting and real estate business. In retirement, Lyle was active in the Senior Citizen Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Houghton Greeley and Maurice William Greeley; and three sisters, Vivian, Dauna and Glorene.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa McKay of Pal Desert, Calif., and Susan Greeley of Oak Park, Ill.; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home
