Howard Trana, 92

Howard Trana, 92, of Henning, died Tuesday May 6, 2008, at Lakewood Health System in Staples.

Howard I. Trana was born in Vining, on June 13, 1915, the son of Anton B. And Lydia (Peterson) Trana. He grew up and attended school at Vining.

After his father died, he left school and began working at the Skelly station in Vining to help support his family. He was married to Mildred Sagerhorn on December 26, 1938.

He then began working at Consumers Oil in Henning, Minnesota. In 1941 he entered the US Army. Following the war, he returned to Henning and Consumers Oil. In 1945 he was appointed postmaster by President Truman and served as Henning’s postmaster for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Millie; his parents; and his sisters, Mary and Lucille

He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Garcia, Stockton, Calif., and Linda Sweitzer, Apple Valley; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Edith Iverson, Henning and Dora Payne, Pacifica, Calif.

Visitation: Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Henning

Clergy: Roger Johnson

Burial: Trinity Cemetery, Henning, with military honors provided by members of the Minnesota National Guard, Fergus Falls
