Evelyn Inez Nelson, 92

Evelyn Inez Nelson, 92, of Ashby, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Pelican Lake Health Care Center in Ashby.

She was born Jan. 2, 1916, in Elbow Lake, the daughter of John and Louise (Haroldson) Frikken. She was baptized in Elbow Lake and confirmed at Hjerdahl Lutheran Church, rural Elbow Lake. Evelyn started school in Elbow Lake. She then moved with her family to Milaca, where she graduated from the eighth grade.

On June 23, 1938, Evelyn married Kenneth Nelson and the couple made their home in the Dalton area. They were the parents of five children: Kenwood, Warren, Carroll, Gary and Kay.

Evelyn was employed at Ten Mile Lake Resort/Steakhouse for many years and also worked at Hansel’s Variety and Dalton Liquor Store.

She was a life-time member of Our Savior’s Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for 15 years and was a very active member of the Ladies Aid, serving as president and secretary. She was also active with the Dalton Senior Citizens and American Legion Auxiliary. Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, quilting, baking, canning and playing cards with her friends. She was dearly loved by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a son, Kenwood; a daughter Kay; brothers, Donald and Gordon Erickson; a grandson, Troy Nelson; and great-grandson Aaron Nelson.

She is survived by three sons, Warren (Marlene) Nelson of Ashby, Carroll (Joyce) Nelson of Champlin, and Gary (Linda) Nelson of Battle Lake; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Nelson of Fergus Falls; two brothers: Orvin Erickson of Elbow Lake and Dale Erickson of Dent; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church

Service: 2 p.m. Monday at Our Savior’s Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church, Dalton
