Ivy Bonrud, 88

Ivy Bonrud, 88, Elbow Lake, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at ELEAH Medical Center in Elbow Lake.
Ivadell, known as “Ivy,” was born on May 5, 1920, in Wendell, to Nels and Julia (Johnson) Fjosne. She attended school in Wendell and Elbow Lake, graduated from high school in 1938, and attended the Dakota School of Business in Fargo and Moorhead State College. Following college, Ivy spent time in California and Texas while working as a legal secretary.
She married Carlton “Carpy” Bonrud on Jan. 15, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas.
In 1948, Ivy and Carpy returned to Elbow Lake and started “Carpy's Ready to Wear.” In addition to “Carpy's” they also owned and operated the “Bon Jos Ladies Ready to Wear” chain of women's clothing stores. Ivy was involved in the management and sales and was head buyer for all the stores. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Elbow Lake Study Club, and bridge groups.
Ivy moved to the Barrett Care Center in November 2005, where she made many good friends in the assisted living residence and the nursing home.
Survivors include her son Dean Bonrud of Plymouth; grandson, Reid (Ami) Bonrud of Wendell, and granddaughter Stacy (Steve) Chojnacki of Wheaton, Ill.; great-grandchildren Alexis, Sara, Emma, Robby and Kelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Julia Fjosne; her husband, Carpy; brothers Isaac, Lawrence and Norman Fjosne; and one sister, Clara Fjosne.
Visitation: Friday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake, and one hour prior to the service
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, at United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake Clergy: Rev. Bob Toso
Burial: Union Cemetery, Elbow Lake
