Paul Engebretson, 61, of Moorhead, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at his home due to a lengthy illness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (emphysema).
Paul Clifton Engebretson was born March 23, 1947, in Pelican Rapids, the son of Clifford and Margaret (Gilberts) Engebretson. He was baptized at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, both in Pelican Rapids. He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1965.
After graduating from high school, Paul attended Moorhead State University. He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969, serving in the Vietnam War. After his military duty, he returned to Moorhead State University earning his bachelor’s degree in sociology.
Paul worked at various jobs during his working career in the Fargo/Moorhead area. Due to health reasons Paul had to retire in 1998.
Paul was a member of the MSU Vet’s Club, American Legion 17 in Pelican Rapids, and the Fargo Moose Lodge.
For many years he coached the 16 year-old Babe Ruth Baseball team in Moorhead taking a couple of teams to nationals. Paul also enjoyed numerous other sports and reading.
Paul was preceded in death by his father; and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his mother, Margaret; two sisters, Avis (Dale) Cowden, Dilworth, and Janet (Harry) Anderson, Covina, Calif.; five brothers, Juel (Charlotte) Engebretson, Pittsburgh, Pa., Elwood Engebretson, Austin, Texas, Collin (Elizabeth) Engebretson, Glencoe, Mark (Colleen) Engebretson, Breckenridge and Steven Engebretson, Pelican Rapids; 15 nieces and nephews, Gregg Anderson, Pam Vadnais, Julie Pasquarella, Robert Cowden, Mary Bergene, Roni Cancino, Ramey Perez, Rodger Engebretson, Kelly Higgins, Carrie Hoffman, Roshel Fuller, Kristoffer Engebretson, Reiner Engebretson, Mikael Engebretson, and Kjerstin Engebretson; several aunts and uncles; and two special neighbors, Christine Cockerill and Roger Nicklay, both of Moorhead.
Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids
Clergy: Rev. Laurie Skow-Anderson and Intern Pastor Pauline Crowder
Burial: Pelican Valley Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, with military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 5252 and American Legion 17, Pelican Rapids
