Oliver Haugrud, 88, Pelican Rapids, MN

Oliver Haugrud, 88, of Pelican Rapids, died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society in Pelican Rapids.

Oliver LeRoy Haugrud was born May 12, 1920, on the farmstead in Pelican Rapids, the son of Olaf and Amelia (Clauson) Haugrud. He was baptized and confirmed at Ringsaker Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. He attended school in rural Pelican Rapids.

In 1943, Oliver married Florence Trosvik at South Immanuel parsonage near Rothsay. He farmed his entire life on the Haugrud family farm.

Oliver enjoyed reading, especially western stories. He also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Oliver was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids.

Oliver was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rodney; five brothers, Herb, Morris, Raymond, Arnold, and Harold; two sisters, Mamie Eickstad and Violet Kuester.

Oliver is survived by his wife, Florence; sons: Mark Haugrud and Bruce (Kim) Haugrud, both of Pelican Rapids; a daughter, DeMaris Nelson, Fridley; daughter-in-law, Ellen Haugrud, Pelican Rapids; three grandchildren, Keith (Mary) Haugrud, Brenda (Mike) Olson, and Afton Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Liv Haugrud, Oliver Haugrud, and Thea Olson; sister: Florence Hansen, Pelican Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Today from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids
