Legion group volunteers for vets - Brad Moe, left, Deanna Mounts, Todd "Speedy" Peterson and Keith Stempfley from the Underwood American Legion were among the members who planned the POW/MIA Motorcycle Run last summer which raised more than $7,000 for the Recreation Program at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. This is an annual event and the planning is ongoing. This group and others meet at the American Legion in Underwood. Even though it's winter and you don't see any bikers out and about, you can be sure they are planning next year's event. (And it's always better than the year before.) Last year there was a breakfast, a special POW/MIA Remembrance Program, a supper, and a dance. Before you know it this group will be "volunteering for veterans” by hosting another POW/MIA run in July. View photo »
Event offers hands-on learning - 4-H Junior leaders Justin Kudrna and Cole Heifort assist youth in the rocketry area. West Otter Tail County 4-H held its annual Project Day at the Underwood School, Jan. 12. Project Days offers youth, grades K-6, the chance to explore and participate in many diverse, hands-on learning opportunities. Some of the workshops and project areas offered by 4-H junior leaders and volunteers were: wood working, performing arts, sewing, arts and crafts, rocketry, foods, recycling. Serious injuries in crash - Dale Gangl, 35, of St. Cloud, was seriously injured just before 7 a.m. Sunday when his semi with double trailer ran off west-bound Interstate 94 near the County Road 1 junction on the south side of Fergus Falls. Gangl, who was ejected from the vehicle, was taken to Lake Region Hospital and later transported to a Fargo hospital. The State Highway Patrol said Gangl’s injuries were non-life threatening.
