Wednesday...a lousy sports night

I didn’t write early this morning because it wasn’t a very good sports night for me last night. The World Series was on and the Wild were on the other channel so I was practicing my remote control moves all day.
But I guess it was one of those good luck emails I didn’t forward come back to haunt me because it turned out to be a lousy night to watch these two events.
With Josh Becket pitching, I really didn’t think the Rockies were going to win, but I didn’t think it was going to be over in the first inning either. I’m not sure what it was, maybe the long layoff hurt the Rockie pitchers or maybe they just aren’t that good. Maybe the Red Sox are that good, naw I hate to admit that. Whatever the case, the Red Sox mad pebbles out of the Rockies last night and it wasn’t pretty.
So I was hoping the Wild game would be fun to watch. After all they went into the game without a loss and had given up only 11 goals in 8 games. They didn’t disappoint me in the first period as they were flying all over the place. With their speed and stick handling they went up on Calgary 3-0. They were also playing their usual stellar defense and totally shut down the Flames offense.
During the first period break there must have been some switching going on. I mean the real Wild must have left the building and some other team took their place because there was a complete turn around in the second and third periods. The Wild seemed to be phoning it in as the only people they could pass to were the Flames and not each other and their defense fell down like Steve Urkel and couldn’t get up. Flames 5 Wild 3 enough said.
The other bad Wednesday sports item was bad not for what happened as to what it reminded me of. The Timberwolves traded Ricky Davis and Mark Blount to Miami for Antoine Walker and some garbage and a future draft pick. It really wasn’t a bad trade; I mean there isn’t much more you can do to this team now. It just reminded me of how bad the Timberwolves have become.
The Wolves management started to destroy the team when they did some illegal things to secure, of all people, Joe Smith. It has been all downhill since then. Oh yeah, we did have a nice year there when we had Latrell “I need to feed my family” Sprewell and Sam “Hey ref, that was a lousy call” Cassell. But those days are gone too and now we are stuck in a rebuilding period with people in charge who I really don’t have faith in doing the construction.
Hey McHale! Beat it!
That first period was good viewing.
By the end of the 2nd it looked grim. 5 on 5 looked like a Flames power play.
Go Sox!
Hey Tom.. enjoying the blogs... keep it up.
Nice entry Tom.
Walker is a nice addition to the Wolves but had been in Riley's doghouse for not spending enough time in the gym.
(Walker was benched last year for not being in shape, according to the Heat's report)
If 'Toine' is in shape, and looking to make an impact with the Wolves this year, he will be given every opportunity to do so.
I just hope he saves his three point shooting for "affordable" times instead of everytime he gets his hands on the ball.
Walker is truly one of those players that 'never saw a shot he didn't like.'
If he would play the "3" position, which he is capable of doing, he would fit in nicely with the Wolves.
