The Deserted Kitchen

I’ve taken a small hiatus from writing in this space, partially because my job has been demanding these last couple of weeks, but mostly because my physical presence in the kitchen has been fleeting at best.

(Well, that, and the fact that Bravo has launched season four of Top Chef, and so I’d rather curl up on the couch and have an internal debate about whether I could execute a “foam” or a “sous vide” better than those so-called chefs.)

Thankfully others have provided me with dinner most days, and I’ve made up some “interesting” lunches with items in my fridge that really weren’t successful (involving smoked salmon, mayo and random veggies) and so I’ve survived on an interesting diet.

One standout from the last week is the package of homemade egg rolls that Yvonne and Scott Toso brought over the other night when we were celebrating my brother-in-law’s 40th birthday. These two clearly know their way around the kitchen! Many thanks for a delicious addition to a quick stir-fry dinner. We’re looking forward to the pheasant as well.

And yes, I will get inspired soon, probably from the warm weather and the promise of new produce. Stay tuned…

Alli, I'm a new reader and I just spent a happy hour reading your stories and recipes. Thanks for sharing, inspiring, entertaining.... I loved Maria's song about the phyllo spinach pie.

Still waiting for a picture of the "buffet" at the 40th birthday party :) But I won't hold my breath.
