Vikings, Twins

-The Vikings football camp opened yesterday and of course some of the talk surrounds the Brett Favre soap opera.

I’m sure you all know by now that tampering charges have been filed against the Vikings because he had phone calls traced to Viking coach Darrell Bevel, who happens to be a good friend of Favre, and now we here he called Brad Childress too. What makes this so stupid is that he made these phone calls on a cell phone that the Green Bay Packers had issued to him so they had every right to look at his phone records.

I had heard a long time ago when Roger Clemens was still pitching for the Red Sox that a Boston sports writer claimed that the Rocket wasn’t the brightest bulb in the box. In other words he was a little intellectually impaired. When the Mitchell report came out and when Mr. Clemens went to Washington the sports writers words of many years ago came to light.

I have also heard through the grapevine that Favre would have maybe been sitting next to Clemens in class. He is a smart football player but beyond that there may be some questions. Using the Packers cell phone to call Vikings coaches kind of shows there may be something to the old grapevine rumors.

Of course a conspiracy theorist could claim the Packers put Favre up to it so their division rivals would be fined and lose draft choices. But none of these conspiracy things ever come true, right?

-I hope he Twins have better luck in the new Yankee stadium than they did in the old one. I think they are glad to get out of Gotham. The Twin pitchers had a little trouble, but the Twins hitters had more trouble against a Yankee staff that isn’t really all that dominate. I mean they have LaTroy Hawkins on their staff, I mean geez. They also had some physical and mental lapses in the series too, like not remembering how many outs there are.

I won’t pick on the Twins too much as a reader pointed out; the Twins are in a rebuilding mode. They have signed their key players to long term contracts and are developing a good starting pitching staff. The fact that they are this close in the race is just a bonus for us Twins fans

I still think the Twins are 2 seasons away from really showing what they got...if they can stay healthy...possibly pick up a couple STRONG bats along the ways..Look out !!!!

Favre...hmm.....ya that was alittle disturbing..thinking the Packers wouldnt mind a couple calls to there divisional rivals...whos to say how the soap opera will play out...I can t say I wouldnt mind him in a purple jersey...however if we can have him let the AFC fight for him...give the Colts and Patriots something to really think about....I hope Tjack is listening to the rumblings and pushes himself just alittle harder to be at the top of his game this fall....could be a fun group to watch....nice article Tom

Tom, I see you're on my same bandwagon that Favre either got hit in the head too many times, or he may really have a brick for a brain.

To steal a writing segment style from my close personal friend Sid Hartman:

Memo to Brett Favre: You signed a $110 million contract and played most of it out (2 years remaining). One would think you have some money lying around somewhere. There are great personal cell phone plans out there nowadays that even YOU could afford, so why didn't you go out there and buy one of these instead of using a company phone?

Now that, my friends, does not take a "Rocket" scientist (pardon the pun) to figure out.

Anyways, that was fun to write. I agree with Huskerman that 1) I guess I'd like to see ol' brickhead in purple for a couple of years, if for nothing else but the intimidation factor and 2) It should give TJack a little more motivation.

Twins....long season, young guys, distractions, never have "been there" before. Give 'em another year or two. I sure enjoy watching them, but the elementary mistakes have to go. Deep down what they're really conspiring to do is make a true run for the title in 2010 when their new stadium opens. Then "Jason" Morneau, Joe and Joe will be household names....even to the dipsticks who announce Home Run Derbies on ESPN. The stadium will make billions of dollars and then the Pohlads will have lots of $ to re-sign all these guys. :) I better quit. Have a great one.

Okay, now to add more to the #4 saga.

I just read in Judd Zulgad's blog in the Strib:

The Green Bay Press Gazette has a story today that refutes the Milwaukee report. “Contrary to several well publicized media reports, two sources — one in the NFL, another close to Favre — said Favre does not have a cell phone issued by the Packers.”

    Saga to be continued.......

Blockhead? Not sure, but could be the right diagnosis. It would explain a lot that's not really explanable otherwise.

Lamm finally got into the lineup & had 3 hits. Why don't they give him more at bats? Geez. And the Twins have to prove it.

Twins are next year's news at this point...

Vikings are better off without Favre...

TJack, in his 3rd year now, will be vastly improved over what he has been able to show from previous experience...

Favre needs to go back to pack, to be humiliated by the new starter there..(That Rogers kid can play!!)

Lamb said it best by acknowledging that a major leaguer's time is all too short...

It's time to bring Liriano back up to the squad.
