A nice win

What a nice win last night for the Twins. Kevin Slowey looked awesome shutting out a good hitting team like the White Sox. That first game of a series is always so important and to get it and to get it so convincingly makes it even better especially after the Sox had hammered Twins pitching the last time they met.
How about that Denard Span? The other day he made some great highlight catches out in center field and last night he hits his first Major League home run. I may have said this before, but I had this guy pegged at being a fish and not a ball player. He has really proved me wrong, but then again he hasn’t done it for a long haul yet either so the jury is still out as they say.
Rumor has it that the Twins are interested in LaTroy Hawkins from the Yankees. Boy that brings back so good memories and not so good. He totally flopped as a closer for the Twins, but then he dominated as the set up guy. Since that is what the Twins need, a set up guy, why not. When we played the Yankees he still had that 95 mile per hour fastball and he looks in pretty good shape. Bring him here under the tutelage of our pitching coach, and who knows, he may help out a lot.
As far as any other deals before the trading deadline, I’m not sure what I would do if I was the GM. It would be nice to get a right handed third baseman who could hit with some power to bat behind Morneau. But Morneau had some good comments about the situation. He mentioned too that it would be nice to get some help, but he also said that if they get someone new they would take the place of players like Brian Buscher, Denard Span, and Brendan Harris and that wouldn’t be good. He said they have earned and disserved the right to keep their positions which makes this a tough decision for Twins management.
-Can you believe it? The Vikings have their first exhibition game next week. Where has the summer gone? It will be interesting to see training camp and how things work out for the Vikings. They have a lot of players in place to make this a very interesting and entertaining season.
The Brett Favre thing doesn’t seem to go away. I read where Bud Grant was quoted as saying that this whole thing is a little strange and that there is something about the situation that we just don’t know.
I talked baseball for many years with an older guy in my home town, and that was always his line when situation would come up that left us all confused. He would say “There is something there that we just don’t know.” So anyway it was fun to see Bud Grant say the same thing.
I watched the Twins game last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really like the new camera angle they put in. It gives you a better sense of where pitches are. I could not believe how close to the plate Konerko stands. Cripes, he's halfway over the plate! I'm surprised more guys don't clunk him. The way he stands in there is almost suicidal. Anyway, he looked terrible at the plate last night and I wasn't sad to see it.
I agree that Span looks like the real deal, and perhaps Delmon might be the one on the outside looking in. He sure looks clueless a lot.
