Cars reported stolen in NYM:
The theft of six cars taken overnight Tuesday from New York Mills is being investigated by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department. Two of the vehicles have been recovered.
About 1:54 a.m. today the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department received a report that a shop north of New York Mills on County Highway 67 had been burglarized. At the same time, New York Mills Police Department received a report that a green Mercury Topaz was stolen from a New York Mills residence.
It appeared the perpetrator was trying to gain access to the residence on the property. It was determined the perpetrator who stole the Topaz also stole a black Ford pickup from another residence north of New York Mills before committing the burglary. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department at 998-8555.
Man accosts two drivers:
A snow plow operator stopped around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday along highways 210 and 78 near Battle Lake to help a man, later identified as Eric Shamp, 23, Battle Lake, who was along the roadside. Shamp, who appeared to be intoxicated, attempted to enter the vehicle through the drivers side door, telling the driver to get out of the truck. Shamp climbed down and the driver drove off.
Shortly after, another individual, seeing Shamp on the roadway, stopped to offer help. Shamp grabbed the driver by the collar and attempted to pull him from the vehicle. The driver, who was buckled into the seat of his Ford Ranger, drove off, with Shamp hanging onto the driver’s collar for about 200 yards.
By this time, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department and Battle Lake Police Department were enroute to the scene. Battle Lake Police placed Shamp under arrest for disorderly conduct and attempted robbery.
He is being held in the Otter Tail County Detention Facility.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by bob567 (anonymous) on December 9, 2007 at 9:17 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I would like to thank the daily journal on reporting about the car thefts in new york mills. As our local paper/police department will not report any negative happenings in our town. So kudos to you.

So, a story that gets picked up by the Star Tribune and the USA Today ... was placed second in the record? Your editorial judgment is just horrendous.

Gee, James, you have such great hindsight - pray tell, why did the Daily Journal fire you?

Eh, wrong. Try again, bucksteel.

OK, James, so you quit before you got fired. Your posts reflect a bitter, ex-employee, who thinks he is a much better journalist than he is. If you really know how to write, perhaps you should occasionally post some rational thoughts that are on topic, rather than continually nit-picking your former co-workers - your act is getting old.

Wrong again, but nice try. I simply want this paper to raise its standards, and I'm not the only one in this community who feels that way. I have made a few posts here and there praising what I thought were well written stories and articles, but they are so few and far between. This paper seems to settle, settle, settle and do the least amount of work and ruffle the fewest amount of feathers possible. If you think I'm wrong about that, I'd love to hear it. Otherwise, stop shooting the messenger.

Which of the following are wrong again, James R?
1) You quit the Journal
2) You quit before you got fired, because you couldn't get along with your editor
3) Your posts reflect a bitter, ex-employee
4) You think you are a better (photo)-journalist than you are
5) You seldom post rational thoughts on topic
6) You continually nit-pick your former co-workers
7) Your act is getting old
Please, James - which are right, and which are wrong?
