Buzzed driving is drunk driving
Published Saturday, December 15, 2007
The holiday season can be one of the deadliest and most dangerous times of the year due to an increase in impaired driving. In December 2006, 1,076 people were killed across the United States in traffic crashes that involved at least one driver or motorcyclists with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.
That's why the Otter Tail County Safe Communities Coalition is joining with National, State and local highway safety officials to remind everyone who will be celebrating during the holidays that Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving and to never forget to plan a safe way home before the festivities begin.
“The consumption of alcohol, drugs and driving just don't mix,” said coalition member Judy Bradow. “Whether you've had way too many or just one too many, it's not worth the risk.”
Following these easy steps, a driver can enjoy a safe and festive holiday without jeopardizing their life and the lives of the others who may be on the road:
• Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin
• Before drinking, please designate a sober driver and give that person your keys
• If you're impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation
• Use your community's Sober Rides programs
• If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don't hesitate to contact your local law enforcement
• And remember, if you know someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely
“ Saving lives on our roads is a top priority and we need everyone's help to do it,” said Jon Karger of the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department. “This holiday season, don't let your year end in an arrest — or even worse, death. Make smart decisions. Plan ahead, so you can assure a safe way home.”

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by BobWilliams (Bob Williams) on December 15, 2007 at 3:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)
And don't forget to have absolutely no fun at all. It's soon to illegal.

If risking other people's lives is fun, perhaps you should find another form of entertainment.

Bob-you obviously have not had a loved one killed or injured by a drunk driver as evidenced by your disrespectful comment. You go right ahead party to your heart's content and entertain yourself but please be wise with your safety and even more important..... the safety of others and do not drink and drive.

Know your limit and be certain your vehicle is in proper working order. The police will pull you over for any reason whatsoever (within the law of course, such as your tail light is out), regardless of if you are showing signs of alcohol. Don't drive drunk. Doing so shows you are an idiot. You don't need to be drunk to have a good time...well maybe some people do but hopefully they don't drive around at that point.

Lets keep our loved ones around this Holiday and please don't drink and drive....As for Bob I figured you would have something to say about your comment, like correcting yourself. If not let the public know what kind of vehicle you drive so we can all stay away from you this holiday!!!!!!!

Just disregard any and all comments made by "Bob Williams" as Bob is always looking for an argument! Suggest Bob's comments be removed instead!

You people are the ones with the interpretation problem. In no way did I say "Hey man, go out and drive drunk." I simply said, "beware, they're going to outlaw fun any day now." How you freaks took that to mean: Bob supports intoxicated automobile operation is your problem, not mine.
You're all looking for a reason to get bent out of shape. You're welcome.

C'mon, Bob. Take a step back and really think about it. It's an article detailing the dangers of drinking and driving, especially around the holiday season. Then the first comment is from you basically saying... and don't forget to not have any fun either.
You're either not very smart for not realizing how people would "interpret" such a comment made in relation to this particular article, or else you are smart and you're just here trying to ruffle some feathers. Judging by the things I've read of yours in the past, I'd put my money on the later. Nice work. ; )

Bobs own blog is nothing but a glorification of drinking and bragging about driving while intoxicated so I think we all know exactly what he meant. As much as he drinks it’s no wonder he was fired from the journal. See www.areavoices.com/human/

Faceless, anonymous party members swarming on a lone, bold prole for daring to laugh openly at the expense of the party's agenda. Nothing too far outside of the usual routine.

Yes, shame on everyone for being against drunken driving!
