Tell me WHY is it so hard to lock your vehicles??? It's amazing how many vehicles are broken into - maybe a way to prevent this would be to lock our vehicles at all times, even outside our own homes and in our garages. Just think how this would REDUCE the crime of theft from vehicles. USE YOUR HEADS PEOPLE!

Ha!

You know...I moved to Fergus 10 years ago, and everyone laughed at me, the big city guy, for locking my doors. "There's no crime around here," they'd say. So, eventually, I got into the habit of leaving my doors unlocked when I'd park in my driveway. Within a month, my car stereo and and CDs were missing. After replacing my car stereo and CDs, I started locking my doors again, and no sooner did I do that then someone busted the window out of my truck and stole my stereo and CDs.

I've also had my checkbook stolen right out of my house - $1,500 worth of checks later I figured it out. The bank reversed all the charges - but even after I gave the sheriff's department the name and address of the only person in my house in the previous month (yeah, I'm that popular), they still never caught the thief.

Anyways, long story short, I've never felt safer than when I moved out of Fergus....

I have a friend who foolishly leaves her keys and purse in her unlocked car. "That way I'll know where they are," is her explanation. I grew up in Detroit..the Motor City, NOT Detroit Lakes! I learned at a very early age to lock up EVERYTHING. You still may be robbed, but if forced entry is proven, your insurance company will be a lot happier!

As explained by AndyMosity and perhaps as a lesson that others can learn from..
If someone wants to get into your vehicle bad enough they will find a way and that is wether the doors are locked or not. If I wanted to have something ripped off, I would leave it in my vehicle. My car doors are never locked, then again, I never leave anything in my car that would warrant having it broken into in the first place. If someone wanted that pack of gum so desperately, I will let them have it and I won't have to replace my window.
