There’s lots to be thankful for in this new year

Published Friday, January 4, 2008

A good New Year’s resolution I have begun again: Always and for everything, give thanks.

Thanks for the pleasant dreams, the pure water, the healthful banana, and indoor plumbing.

This makes me happy and reminds me that everything I have and everything I am, is a gift.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.

Why be thankful for a banana? Once you take off the skin and throw away the bone, there’s not much left.

I sure hope Maryann will enlighten us daily with a list of what she is thankful for...

Day 1: Sheets, pillow, blanket, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, kleenex, washcloth, toast, plate, knife, glass, orange juice, another washcloth...
Day 2: Sheets, pillow, blanket, toothpaste, toothbrush...
Day 3: Sheets, pillow, blanket...

I can't wait.

Where's Dave T when you need him?

Perhaps some of you have never had to do without. It's nice to see someone who has an open attitude of gratitude for what people like you seem to take for granted. Have you nothing better to do than continuously put someone down? That's all I ever read from you, and that is pathetic.

More of us should be thankful for all the things we have. Do some of you never stop to count your blessings? I think if you have time to pick apart someone elses thoughts you have too much time on your hands and could spend that time counting your blessings.

If you can count your blessings, you don’t have enough.
If you can’t you have more than you deserve.
