One injured in Bluffton accident:
A juvenile female sustained minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident approximately one mile north of Bluffton at about 4 a.m. Thursday.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department said the driver was southbound on County Highway 19 when she encountered a deer on the roadway.
The driver swerved to the right to avoid a collision, but then lost control of the vehicle when she overcorrected back to the left. The vehicle, a 1994 Honda Civic, then entered the ditch and rolled.
The victim was taken to an area hospital by the Bluffton/Wadena rescue and ambulance crew. She received only minor injuries. The vehicle sustained light damage.
Police rescue woman at Lake Alice:
At 7:13 a.m. today, a resident on the east side of Lake Alice called Fergus Falls police to report that a woman was stuck in the snow on the lake.
The victim, in her late 20s, had rolled down the hill. She was transported to Lake Region Hospital for treatment of cold-related injuries.
Police said that alcohol may have been a factor in the incident. The investigation is continuing.
Man dies when state troopers stun him with Taser
FRIDLEY — A Minnesota man who died after being Tasered by state troopers this week was a healthy 29-year-old, his family said Thursday.
Mark Backlund’s parents and sister said they had no answers for what led to a confrontation between Backlund and troopers following a rush-hour crash Tuesday evening.
Backlund suffered from a bad back and sometimes drank too much Mountain Dew, but “other than that he was healthy,” his father, Gordon Backlund, said from the family’s living room in this northern Twin Cities suburb.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by MrBling420 (anonymous) on January 18, 2008 at 3:37 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Well...in defense of the law enforcement personnel, Mark Backlund has a prior conviction of disorderly conduct.

I wasn't aware that disorderly conduct was grounds for death.

That state trooper should be charged with murder, I would be if I over reacted to a burglar in my house. There are some people who should never be a cop or have any authority over other people. Some people just want to be cops so they can push others around. Did this trooper know he had a prior for DC before he murdered him?
