Wealthy will benefit most from tax cut

Published Friday, January 25, 2008

George Bush’s solution for a disaster or whatever is a tax cut, it and who benefits most: The most wealthy. President said tax cuts are good for the economy and you. In the six years that the GOP controlled both the legislature and the executive branch we had all-time record years in federal debt, deficient, and spending.

We have over 550 Americans worth more than $1billion (how you doing?). Former governors may ask, local officials may ask, some of the wealthy may ask, and bridges may tumble, roads may crumble, and 199 schools in 2007 asked their voters for more money, but our governor will not compromise when it comes to taxing the rich. He says they may move (Halliburton moved their headquarters out of Texas and Texas doesn't have a state income tax) and they "give us jobs."

I also watched Huckabee on Jay Leno talk about doing away with the federal income tax and a 24 percent tax on sales. So if nine people get a $35 million bonus each, they pay no taxes and corporations pay no income taxes, but the U.S. citizens pay 24 cents extra per $1 for gasoline, heat, food, clothing (would that include services such as eating out) car parts, etc. And you do think citizens from other countries will want to shop and buy U.S. products with a 24 percent increase.

And I'm sure the farmer is enthused about paying another 24 percent for a tractor, seed, equipment, etc. And of course, senior citizens and others will be more than happy to pay 24 percent more for medicine. And the person below the poverty line with a job and the homeless who pays cash: How would that work so they get reimbursed? With all due respect, I usually agree with a lot of Journal opinions, but this one, no.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.

Well said.

Why is anyone surprised by this? You voted Republican and you got it.

Hey, don't throw me in with those goofs either.

I don't know what you Democrats are complaining about. Republicans are the ones in favor of less taxes. If it were up to Democrats the government would control everything in your life. You would be paying 75% of your income to the government so they could offer you CHEAP food, fuel, etc. When in reality they are just hiding the true costs. The democrats idea of good fiscal policy is spending $1000 to give everyone a $500 rebate check. If you want to see the most inefficient bloated company ever created take a look at the government.

Why not ask a bigger question, because we are told we must fight a war on terror that may last any where from 10 to 100 years, we will not have any money to spend on all the issues we need to address in our own country? Do you really think this rebate checks is going to help? Check out 911 Birth_of_Treason on google

This administration has managed to rack up a $194 TRILLION DOLLAR Federal Deficit in 8 years. Enough said.

byteme, you are everything that's wrong with politics today.

You totally ignore what has been going on with Republican spending, debt, etc... and bring up some tired old diatribe about "Democrats and high taxes".

Then, when called on it... you acknowledge it, like it was no big deal, then immediately, you bring up Clinton, and his personal escapades, and bin Laden in the same breath. You should have been in Bush's circle of advisors.

Point is Bush wouldn't have had to spend all this money on the war if the Democrats (Clinton) would have done their job!

Also I'd like to know why my comment was removed. It was not inappropriate. It's not like I said anything that hasn't already been reported in the media. The only reason is the media is pro-democrat and they don't want you to know the truth.

Bin Laden was/is in Afghanistan/Pakistan... NOT Iraq.

See, same old misdirection. Point proven, again.

I'm guessing it was the terminology... I can't remember seeing those words used by the media.

And Reagan was the one that put both Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden in power and gave them weapons...

Please, stop the blame. It doesn't get us anywhere.

Thank God we have 550 Billionaires! They are the people who own businesses that put people to work. You make it sound as though being rich is a bad thing. So what if they get tax breaks? Think of the risk involved in running a business.
How 'bout this; let's stop giving away our tax dollars to support entitltment programs and redirect that money to bridges and roads.
Take a look at your paycheck stub (for those of you who actually work for a living) and see how much you already pay in taxes. The government gets plenty of my hard-earned cash.
I make a really good living and can't wait to get my hands on the refund. My husband and I plan to buy a computer to start a business that could turn me into a billionaire! God, I love America.

Boy, Clara, you've taken the hook, line, sinker and stringer to new lows.

Bob,

At least Clara has some ambition and doesn't represent herself as a victim all the time. Maybe if more people like you quit feeling sorry for yourself and actually participated in the process we could begin to move this country in a positive direction.

In reply to tuffguii, I have done a lot of research on what I am talking about. We have been lied to by Bush and Cheaney and a few others, it has been proven.. You see once you tell a lie you have to keep telling lies to cover the lie you told.
