Leader must not think much about farm bill

Published Saturday, February 23, 2008

Did our leader even mention anything about the pending farm bill? Not that I heard. He must not think much of our farm and ranch people, the ones who are the main part of our economy.

We did hear “stay the course,” on his Iraq war. It is OK to spend billions of dollars every month over there, but no money for school lunches, or health care for uninsured children.

He only thinks about the upper class, not the ones who get their hands and clothes dirty, the people who keep our country running.

Stop sending money to every country in the world. Don’t try to buy their friendship. Take care of our own.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.

I hope you're not just figuring that out about Bush as he's never given a rip about the common folk ie; the farmer/rancher. His agenda has always been to favor the super rich. I suppose he figures his payday is coming after he leaves office.

As far as the farm bill is concerned, I have no problem helping out the small struggling farmer. To give hard earned tax dollars in the form of tax welfare payments to the well to do farmers is outrageous. The only motive and reason for a farm bill in the first place is bribery. It's amazing how easy it is for a politician to buy someone's vote with tax dollars. A couple hundred bucks is usually enough for the typical American.

Reminds me of a joke my uncle told me when I moved here: How can a farmer double his income? Two mailboxes!

Of course, this most Christian of all presidents, who wears his religion on his sleeve and proclaims to be president because God wills it, has ignored the folks who helped elect him.At this point the welfare recipients and anti-choice folks who elected him are of no use to him.The largesse for the farmers will continue as most politicians have figured out that they will vote for anybody they think will benefit them.
Wake up, you were/are being used to shift the wealth to the two percent who are doing fine and starving ther beast and the people who can still remember how to spell, union.
The final touch is being put on things as we watch. The Sup Ct will preside over the destruction of our public schools and the world we have known. Our grandkids will live in a different world!

Has anyone checked lately on HOW MUCH farmers are receiving in subsities even w/ commodities at record highs...and grocery prices reflecting that?? MANY farmers in our area are buying and building million to multimillion dollar homes and lake homes....people (average taxpayers) are SO STUPID...open your eyes......

Why don't we all wake up? For some reason there is one kind of artical that gets printed in this rag. Its bad enough where I think the name should be changed to The New York Journal. What happened to ballanced reporting it sure doesn't happen here. I read nothing but hit after hit towards republicans and behind the back ass pats for the Dems. If anyone thinks there getting the whole story, and that its all the republicans fault, then you deserve 20 more years of the same B.S. we all have been living with for the last 20!!!! How about some real change.

You Farmers need to quit your complaining!!!

Apparently you haven't checked the markets lately.

Corn is at $5.35 / bu. Average Yield 142.2 bussels per acre in Minnesota. or $760.77 / acre

Soybeans $14.38 / bu. Average Yield 44.6 bussels per acre in Minnesota or $648.35 / acre.

Wheat $10.64. Average Yield 48 bussels per acre in Minnesota or $510.72 / acre.

If you "family" farmers can't make a profit at these prices without subsidies you shouldn't be in farming PERIOD!!! I love farmers that complain they can't make any money because everything costs too much, they buy all this equipment and land to lower their taxable income so it LOOKS like they are loosing money they FORGET that they are building equity. I don't know of too many people in Fergus Falls that wouldn't trade their retirement plans for 500-1,000 acres of land!!!

P.S. anyone who wants to sell me some land at $500 or less per acre which is what most farmers purchased it at I'd be all ears!!!

You may already know this but in the last couple of years farmers have been exempted from the "Medical LienLaw" that recovers the costs of nursing home care by placing a lien on your homestead...unless you are a farmer!
....The farm property even the lakeshore owned by a farmer is assessed at .55% of the land of others and the tax rate is reduced. Even with that the assessed value of the land is closer to the $500 that byteme suggests than to the market value which is closer to $3,000 per acre!
P.S. Nobody is blaming the republicans...the legislation referred to was by "democrat" Otremba and blue dog dem Colin Peterson,( whio just happens to be Florida Rep.Katherine Harris's squeeze!)

It all comes down to why were we lied to about (911) who benifited from it? There is no explanatoin for building 7 of the world trade center complex to fall at about 5pm on September 11th 2001. It was never damaged, and if you got that answer you can figure out an answer to our farm issue. Google 911 Truth and you will see what a lot of people believe, one of them is Senator Mark Dayton of MN.. (also painful deception)

You should also probably lay off the mushrooms! Either that or don't attend any more of Herzog's "The World is Ending Tommorrow Give me All your Money so you'll be saved" sermons!

People believe what they want to believe. If they hate Bush enough they can believe any dumb thing that comes out against him. Like the 9-11 lie.

Do any of you ignorant #$%&***&^%$ know how much money it costs to keep a farm operating, apparently not? You people are so dumn I bet you knock the farmers with a full stomach? One "smart" lady said, we don't need farmers, I buy my milk at the store.
