Ruth Ann Ramsay, 49, Perham, made her first appearance in Otter Tail County District Court Monday. She did not enter a plea, Otter Tail County Attorney David Hauser said. She is represented by Reid Brandborg, Fergus Falls. Another hearing will be set within 28 days.
Ramsay is charged with theft by taking property without consent, theft by swindle; and financial transaction card fraud/use without consent. All are felonies.
She allegedly embezzled $124,967.55 from a former employer, Perham Eye Clinic, over a 10-year period.
Water main break fixed:
The water main break that left about 30 homes on the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Aurdal Street and the 400 and 500 blocks of Cedar Avenue without water yesterday was repaired around 3 a.m. this morning, Public Works Director Anne Martens said. The city is working this morning to repair a break at Mill and East Cavour. Moving frost is to blame for both breaks, she said.
Jail time given for check forgery:
Nathan John Heschke, 23, Henning, pleaded guilty in Otter Tail County District Court in December and was sentenced Feb. 19 for felony check forgery. Between Dec. 30, 2006, and Jan. 4, 2007, Heschke wrote checks that were not his around the Henning area.
Heschke was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison, stayed for five years and up to five years probation. He will serve 30 days in Otter Tail County District Court, with credit for two days served. He will pay $582 in fines and court costs and $5,303.17 in restitution.

Around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Fergus Falls Police were called to the Best Western to assist in clearing two hotel rooms. One group left without incident. The second room was forcibly entered.

A 15-year-old female from Two Harbors was charged with consuming under 21 and obstructing justice. A 17-year-old Fergus Falls female was charged with consuming under 21 and fifth degree assault.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by mommom (anonymous) on February 26, 2008 at 4:16 p.m. (Suggest removal)
You know... vandalism is one thing, but why on earth would you vandalize a Church?? I think these kids really need to find something better to do with their time, nmaybe they should try ice fishing??? There are plenty of lakes in the same area!!

How many times are they going to hit this poor church.
It would almost pay to put up video cameras, to catch these little buggers

I wonder if anyone could get together a group of people to do a neighborhood watch sort of thing for our area churches? It's horrible to think that anyone would have the nerve to mess with a church.

A watch type of thing would be ideal, but these churches are on roads that are not very traveled... I live in Maine Twp, and I do watch our area... but a person can only catch so many things... I think the parents of kids in this area should be paying a bit more attention to what their kids are doing... and having then watch their neighborhood area, give them some responsibility for their fellow people!

I don't see how breaking into a church is any different than breaking into a store... (Mostly because it's not.. You guy's are obviously being swayed by your religion.)

Uf-da. You know what else is sick? AIDS. Guns, too. Sure, broken windows are scary, but if we're going to have neighborhood watches because of it, I want all the houses with guns to be monitored as well. The times are changing, and that means that we may have to get used to such acts of crime. It is my belief that if the city of Fergus Falls wants to continue to expand, we must adapt to the presence of other cultures. If the people of Fergus Falls are able to adapt to these diversities, our city will flourish.
