Let’s keep OTC the lowest
Published Wednesday, February 27, 2008
While the number of DWI arrests in Otter Tail County was higher in 2007 than in the previous year, it’s good to see that Otter Tail County is moving down the more important list — the number of alcohol-related fatal crashes.
For many years, Otter Tail County was among the dozen worst counties in Minnesota in terms of the most alcohol-related fatal crashes, placing as high as ninth. It was ranked 17th in 2007, which sheriff’s department officials attribute to both better enforcement and, in partnership with other organizations, efforts to educate the public about the dangers of drinking and driving.
If it means arresting more people for drinking and driving to prevent fatal crashes, then more arrests in 2007 was a good thing.
Our county is gradually losing its reputation as a dangerous State in terms of those who drink and drive. Let’s keep the downward trend going.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by eripsni (anonymous) on February 27, 2008 at 12:42 p.m. (Suggest removal)
How about more serious penalties for those who are convicted of a DUI? Correct me if I'm wrong, but a DUI in other countries can mean a permanent ban on driving ever again. That might make people think twice...
