Cartoon was tasteless
Published Wednesday, March 5, 2008
I am compelled to comment on the tasteless, degrading (to all women) political cartoon that was run in Monday's paper (March 3, 2008) portraying Hillary Clinton as a common hooker on a street corner.
I have no problem with differing opinions on the qualifications of the candidates for President. I actually find some of the cartoons amusing. There was nothing amusing to me about putting a woman candidate on a street corner in fishnet stockings.
I don't recall ever seeing a man running for office depicted as a pimp or male prostitute because of his political connections and I hope I never do.
There surely has been a little more respect shown to men who were candidates in the past. Perhaps we haven't come as far as we'd like to think we have in accepting a woman as a serious and equal candidate for president.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by lenny (anonymous) on March 5, 2008 at 3:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I’m waiting for the same group of conservatives who complained about the cartoon of General Petraeus a few months ago to come forward and complain about this cartoon. If you remember Bud Nornes even wrote a letter to the editor about it.

Oh, no.... Male candidates are only portrayed as thiefs, liars, cheaters, Idiots etc. Wearing Bandanas on their faces, brandishing weapons, wearing dunce caps etc. I hope I never see a female candidate portrayed as such.

C’mon Jerry and Freda, nearly six months ago (September 14th, 2007) on these very pages you guys were crying about the FFDJ publishing a cartoon which you considered unflattering to General David Piraeus. Lets hear you weigh in on this one. Your hypocrisy is showing.

Nice nation we have here...people cannot take a joke anymore and get offended constantly over the most inanely trivial things. Idiots. Get some thicker skin and deal with this perhaps abstract concept called "life".
