Big weekend in hoops

Published Thursday, March 6, 2008

It’s always a thrill to have a local sports team vying for a spot in a state tournament. But this weekend we have the opportunity to watch two area girls basketball teams fight for a spot in the Minnesota Girls State Basketball Tournament.

Tonight Fergus Falls’ Dave Rund will take the Otter girls to Moorhead were they will attempt to earn the team’s first trip to the state tournament. They take on Detroit Lakes — a team they defeated 46-26 on Dec. 15 — in a Section 8AAA game at 7 p.m. at Minnesota State University, Moorhead.

Tomorrow night it’s the Knights from West Central Area who will try to win the 6AA crown and a berth in the state tournament when they face Albany at 6:30 p.m. at St. Cloud State University.

Pat Anderson’s team scored a surprising 53-28 victory over number one ranked Minnewaska last Saturday to earn its match-up with Albany.

We wish both teams the best of luck and hope to be writing about the Otters and Knights in next week’s sports pages from Minneapolis at Williams Arena and Target Center.

Good luck Otters!

Good luck Knights!

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
