Trip to the basketball Big Dance
Published Friday, March 7, 2008
It’s amazing what meaning the roll of ball on the rim of a simple basketball hoop can have. Here in Fergus Falls, it means that our girls basketball team is heading to its first girls basketball tourney in school history after a Detroit Lakes player missed a shot at the buzzer. That miss sent the Otters to the State Tournament.
The win wasn’t just a win for the girls basketball team, but one for the entire Fergus Falls community.
State tournament time is a special time. It was great to see community members singing and dancing in the stands of the Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse Thursday in Moorhead.
The girls played with a motto all year stating that they couldn’t move from a good team to a great team without a Section 8AAA championship.
They got that championship last night. Now the girls can concentrate on moving from great to the best — and hopefully that will bring on much more dancing in the stands.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by FFguy (anonymous) on March 7, 2008 at 1:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)
As a parent of one of the girls on the basketball I have to add this. When she came home last night after the game/caravan/pep fest she walked into the door and said "I love Fergus Falls". Pretty cool statement from a 17 year old describing the community in which she lives and plays and works.
