Hillcrest math teams win significant
Published Tuesday, March 11, 2008
While sports teams headed to state tend to get a lot of attention this time of the year, it’s important to note the significant accomplishment of the Hillcrest math teams, which placed first and second in the Tri-College Math Competition Wednesday in Moorhead.
The Hillcrest teams beat out 76 other teams in winning the competition, proving it’s no small feat. Considering that math is a key skill in obtaining much needed skills in the workforce, the fact that Hillcrest has amassed so many talented math students bodes well for the future of the school, and the students.
While no one questions the need for physical fitness, or that there are many good students who are athletes, the fact is, math team members are far more likely to make a career out of their passion than those who participate in sports.

6 of the 8 team members are South Korean exchange students. What does that say for our math curriculum in the US?

wow, South Korea, thats where my kids grandfather was in 1951 making sure that future generations would be able to come over here and study.
Hats off to the Korean Vets that made this possible.

Mel your comment makes no sense....and if you look at the JV team it's not all Koreans... they just seem more into studying than the American students do...some get up around 4 AM just to study...our math is the same as theirs...parents just need to push their kids farther
