Dalton Fire Chief Eric Mounts inspects ruins in the garage, including a charred vehicle, following a fire early this morning at the Joe and Kimberly Borgos residence.
Joe Borgos heard his dogs barking this morning, about 5:20 a.m., and discovered his house was ablaze. He quickly awoke his wife, Kimberly, and their two daughters, ages four and 10 months, and left the house before it was destroyed by fire.
Dalton Fire Chief Eric Mounts said the blaze was pretty much out of control when he and other firefighters arrived on the scene about three miles south of Dalton near Sand Lake. Also fighting the fire this morning were members of the Ashby, Elbow Lake and Underwood fire departments.
Close to 30 firefighters fought the blaze, according to Mounts.
Ironically Borgos, who works in Fergus Falls, also is a member of the Dalton Fire Department. This morning he expressed appreciation to his fellow firefighters for their quick response and efforts in helping him and his family. His wife and daughters were safe and warm at the home of his in-laws.
A vehicle in the garage, where the fire started, also was destroyed. The brick home owned by Borgos and his wife is located just north of Sand Lake along Highway 82 south of Dalton.
The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the family.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by daidres (anonymous) on March 12, 2008 at 12:42 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Sorry, Tom.
The fact that Borgos was a firefighter is not ironic... That's coincidental. ;-)
Maybe the Daily Journal should send their journalists back to high school?

There has been a fund set up to help the family at either Farmers State Bank or Midwest Bank, both in Dalton, and also at First State Bank of Ashby. This is a great family and we are praying for them during this hard time..
