Time change results in conformity
Published Thursday, March 13, 2008
This morning, as I resolutely took my old eight-sided pocket watch, wound it up and reset it a full hour ahead; conforming to the demands of some all powerful, but unseen authority that can dictate what I must do, to conform to their wishes.
Then it occurred to me, in all its single yet elegant clarity, here I was, more than 70 years old, blindly following the herd. Who demands that I tell time because of the wishes of some other expert?
If I refuse to conform, will "they" come and get me? I doubt it. But I still refuse to knuckle under.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by eripsni (anonymous) on March 13, 2008 at 12:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Someone needs to find a padded room.

On the contrary, this is the best thing I've seen here this year. Well said.

Exactly Kirby. At least you are realizing this later in life, instead of most of them out there, who will go on doing what they're told until they are unable to do anything anymore.
