Popular educator moving to Morning Son
Published Wednesday, April 2, 2008
If anyone knows what it feels like to be in multiple places at the same time, it’s Shelley Schoeneck. When Schoeneck isn’t heading an Academic Challenges activity at Fergus Falls Middle School, she’s teaching district first graders about cooperation, talking with a small group of kindergartners or preparing for an upcoming anti-bullying program at Cleveland.
“I’m everywhere this year,” Schoeneck said, “which is just a great deal of fun.”
As she looks ahead to next school year, Schoeneck is preparing to trade all of her current roles for only one: kindergarten teacher at Morning Son Christian School. Schoeneck will enter the position formerly held by Cheri Hosch, who taught kindergarten from the time of the school’s inception until her death last fall.
“Cheri loved her children,” Schoeneck said, “and she loved that school and built such a foundation.”
That foundation is something Schoeneck said she hopes to add to.
A native of Detroit Lakes, Schoeneck received her degree in early childhood education from Minnesota State University Moorhead and later earned her elementary license. She headed a gifted/talented program in Bemidji and worked with preschoolers at Claire Ann Shover before teaching second grade in Fergus Falls last year.
Preschool and kindergartners, Schoeneck said, have always had a special place in her heart.
“They come (to school) so excited about learning and ready to learn,” she said. “It’s an exciting time to be part of their lives.”
Schoeneck will bring to her future kindergartners both her own teaching experience and the lessons she’s learned from other Fergus staff.
“Because I’m in every single classroom every week,” she said, “I get to watch master teachers. I think it’s just a blessing because whenever you watch someone who’s been teaching for awhile you learn so much.”
Schoeneck said next year’s Morning Son kindergarten class will be capped at 20 students, with three available options: 1) all day, every day, 2) half day, every day, 3) and a half day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and all day (Tuesday and Thursday) combination.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by doctipster (anonymous) on April 3, 2008 at 11:46 a.m. (Suggest removal)
At least she won't have to worry about the school district cutting her job and laying her off like the other twenty teachers... and then re hiring in the late summer....
