Winter storm dumps 7 inches of snow on area
Published Monday, April 7, 2008
Just moving trash containers to the curb Sunday evening was hard work for many Fergus Falls residents. This was but one example of the difficulty for residents in Fergus Falls and throughout the county who found the going very tough for most of Sunday and into Monday morning during and after an April snowstorm.
“Just a few more shovels of snow and I’ll be able to get my car onto the street,” said Tracy Kloos this morning while removing snow around her car parked in front of an apartment on South Mill Street.
Further down the street, on North Mill, Paul Enger used his snow blower equipment to clear the sidewalk. He runs his own snow removal business and has 140 accounts.
“This will be a busy day,” Enger said, “but you have to take things in stride and take care of what comes along.”
Weary county residents, after a long winter, were again reminded that in Minnesota, April snowfall is not uncommon. That observation was shared all weekend long by weather forecasters and meteorologists all across the state.
Fergus Falls and Otter Tail County were among the areas hard hit in west central Minnesota. The highest snowfall, up to 19 inches, was reported in the Park Rapids area.
About seven inches of snow fell in the Fergus Falls area, with some nearby residents receiving more than a foot.
Schools throughout the area, including Fergus Falls, cancelled classes.

Geez, you crybabies! Just get out there and shovel. Be thankful the City has snowplows.
I have NEVER lived in a City that didn't pile snow in front of my driveway.
Just how much time do you think it will take for the driver to pivot each time he gets to a driveway? Then, you'd be complaining that the City was too slow in getting the job done.
Get over yourselves!

Wayne,
I have a pocket,My Driveway! I could plow the whole street and they still would plug it. I have one other thing, why do they plow the boulevard? The only result is they tear up all the grass and it is a mess.

Clara,
You need to get out more.

I'm with Clara! ;) I dont see the issue with a little push of the shovel and exercise.

Clara, the driver does not have to pivot his blade at each driveway. All he has to do is to drop the second blade down and then continue driving for the width of the driveway then lift the blade again. The entire operation would take a few seconds. By the way, that second blade is optional equipment which the city paid extra taxpayer dollars for, but refuses to use. Only a person with a vested or personal interest in the current manner of snow removal could or would defend the present method of snow removal. Lastly, there are many older taxpayers who can clean their driveway with a powered snow blower but can not remove a six foot compacted pile at the end of their driveway for fear of a heart attack. But thanks for your concern and sympathy for them Clara. You are a real example of Christian charity.

SallyRay,
I can think of better ways to exercise that won't lead to a heart attack!

Hey Toad, maybe SallyRay and Clara will come over and do your driveway.

That would be fine with me, they could get all their exercise done and it would save me from a heart attack!

You people really think that when a plow comes down the road and fills in a drive way it was done on purpose. Where is the snow suppose to go? If the street didn't get plowed you would complain about that, but that would sure solve your drive way prblem.

Would it be too much for the editor of this site to tell us why some posts get removed and others don’t?
If you want posters to go by the rules tell us what the rules are.

Sorry - I was out of town and wasn't able to check the comments. Anyway, just a quick follow-up. . . I've done the "pocket" thing at the end of my driveway, and it's worked pretty well. Not perfect, but it's better than dealing with the large pile of compacted snow that I used to see. Granted, this is in our alley so maybe that makes a difference - I'm not sure.
