Confused about health care issues

Published Saturday, April 19, 2008

I wish someone could answer some of my questions — maybe Diane Thorson, who is our health person.

We cannot go into a bar and smoke because that is bad for our health. We cannot allow our children to play with certain toys because they have lead in them and that’s bad for our health. We cannot throw our old pills down the drain because it will get into our drinking water, and that’s bad for our health.

We are having a problem doing anything with the RTC because there is asbestos in it and that is bad for our health. They can’t put as much salt on icy roads because it will drain into the drinking water.

Yet, we allow thousands and thousands of geese to stay here — and what they eat has to come out — where? In the water, which by the way, goes into our drinking water, on lawns and sidewalks.

I’d like to say something to the man who said they are “God’s;” Yes, that’s right, but when he said to walk around the droppings, my reply to him is what about the people who have to use a walker or a wheelchair to get around? Are they not to go outside? They also have rights and are they not God’s children?”

I well remember when the few businessmen from main street thought it might be nice to go get some geese and have them in town — I wonder if they look down from heaven and what they are saying?

I don’t know what the DNR or the Humane Society are doing. But when you see ducks and geese with broken wings and broken legs, some can hardly walk, they are so skinny you know they can’t eat — so what’s up with that?

And then we have those people who think it is fun feeding the geese by giving them five to six pails of bread on other people’s lawn — like Riverview Heights — and that’s OK?

Do we not have people in or around Fergus Falls who don’t have meat? Why not have a certain hunting season and cut down the flock and give to the needy? Isn’t that God’s way?

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.

Jan, what's the population of Fergus Falls? With that in mind how much sewage does the local human inhabitants produce? Think about that the next time you use your commode. I'm glad I don't live in Breckenridge, they get to drink the H20 from the Fergus Falls sewage treatment plant & all the chemical run off from the agricultural community, yes, the "farmer". Ever heard of a fart in a hurricane? That's about how much the geese & other wildlife contribute in our lives; leave them alone. That goes for you too Rollie Licknes.

Chipmunk said “poop” and was removed, Chriscraft said “fart” and it stays up. I guess it is not what you say but who said it and how much you make the journal angry.

I personally feel that the Breckenridge water is much better than the water in Fergus Falls. I live in Fergus but work in Breckenridge, and when I am at work I don't have to filter my water before I can drink it like I have to do with the water in Fergus.
