Published Monday, April 21, 2008

One injured in ATV rollover:

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department responded to an ATV collision along 480th Street in Butler Township near Mud Lake at about 1 p.m. Saturday. James Ryan Olson, 21, New York Mills, was traveling at 45-50 mph when he struck Tyler James Wegscheid, 19, Blufton, another rider in his group. Olson was thrown from the ATV and taken to Perham Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released with minor injuries. He said he did not see Wegscheid, who had stopped to help a rider in the ditch, until 50 feet away because of the dust from gravel. Wegscheid did not require medical treatment.

Car vandalized at Underwood School:

Gwen Schleske, Fergus Falls, notified the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department of vandalism to her daughter’s car at about 10:30 a.m. Friday. Schleske said the car, a 1989 tan Plymouth Acclaim, had been wrapped all the way around with black tape as it sat in the Underwood School parking lot overnight. The car was still in the lot at the time of the report Friday and staff with the Sheriff’s Department said the incident may have been a prank.

One-vehicle accident, DUI Saturday:

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department responded to a one-vehicle accident near Schmidt’s Bridge north of Fergus Falls just before 8 a.m. Saturday. Samantha Lewis, 20, was cited for underage drinking and driving and taken to Lake Region Hospital before being released to her family.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.

Not all people who are cited for DUI/DWI are sentenced to jail time. Many times, they are booked in and do their intoxilizer tests and released to someone who is sober with no warrents. Those who are jailed are most likely on probation, have warrents or simply can't find someone to pick them up. I know this as I am a police officer's wife.

Cool. That explains why we have so many repeat offenders and so many senseless deaths. Just a little slap on the hand and go home to sleep it off.

Well I thought it was mandatory to stay in jail until sobriety. I suppose she regained sobriety at the hospital?

Perhaps she was ordered to appear in court today. We don't know all the details since the reporter, as ususal, didn't do a thorough job of reporting.
