Foot of snow blankets Fergus Falls

Snow continued to fall in Fergus Falls at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning as a late April storm blankets Otter Tail County and northwestern Minnesota.

At 3:30 a.m. Saturday the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department reported that a foot of snow had already fallen on the area. Otter Tail and Grant counties were reporting the heaviest snowfalls at 12-inches each. The National Weather Service has received reports of an estimated 18 inches of snow in Pelican Rapids. Becker County to the north reported 9 inches, as did Richland County and our neighbor to the west, Wahpeton, N.D.

Hector International Airport in Fargo reported 4.90 inches of snow Friday. That was a record snowfall for the day, breaking the 3.50-inch record set in 1935.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported difficult driving conditions across a large part of west-central and north-central Minnesota on Saturday morning, including Interstate 94 from the Alexandria area to Moorhead, and recommended no travel in several western counties due to visibilities that dropped near zero at times.

Guess that I will have to take the snowmobile out of storage. Too bad that we have 130 acres of corn in the ground.

I wonder if the city of Fergus Falls is going to plow the streets?

Posted by votedem (anonymous) on April 26, 2008 at 3:02 p.m. (Suggest removal)

This is ridiculous...almost 3:00pm and my road still isn't plowed! I live right in the middle of town! Tell me again what my tax dollars are paying for....

There is a lot of snow to move, its slick and heavy. Where do you prople need to go to so badly. There still advising no travel, GET IT. Lots of snow. You don't need to go anywhere people. Next you will complain that the plow filled in your driveway with snow, and propably on purpose too. Poor people. Are you out of rice too.

Hi, I live in the tropical north of Australia and I was there in 2001 at Easter time when there was a 3 day snow storm. I loved it..it was so great to experience something you would never experience here in Australia. Minnesota is so beautiful in the winter time...Mystical and Beautiful is how I will always remember Minnesota. Just to warm all you guys up...I have just come home from a weekend at the beach and it was beautiful and sunny and we caught lots of fish.

votedem: Complain, complain, complain. Maybe the city crews started later due to the fact that it was still snowing heavily, why plow and have to go over it again? Wouldn't that be wasting "your tax dollars"? With the price of fuel, etc. doesn't that make more sense. You are probably one of the people that parks in the street, making it harder and slower for the plows to operate, with having to go around vehicles in the way. You are not the only person in town. Have you ever thought of how many people are in this town? What makes you special? I pay taxes too and I am thankful for the great job the city workers did this weekend. I'm sure they had to get out of their driveways too, and nobody plowed for them! Think about it.

I ventured out late Fri afternoon, it sure was NASTY. I was amazed with how many drivers did not have their HEADLIGHTS ON!!! Common sense.
