City needs to take action in regards to the geese

Published Wednesday, May 14, 2008

After reading two letters in the newspaper, I just had to write to tell you I agree with both of them about the geese.

I live in an apartment by the river where there are a lot of walkers, wheelchairs and scooters where the goose droppings are. I myself use a walker and it’s hard to miss them and also around Lake Alice. I used to like to walk around the lake, but can’t anymore because it’s full of goose droppings.

Think about the kids that practice football on the levy, playing in goose droppings. Not too healthy, and Diane Thorson doesn’t do anything about that unhealthy stuff. All she thinks about is banning smoking. That’s been around for years.

I agree with the person who wrote that lives around Lake Alice and having to have goose droppings in his yard, driveway, etc.

Maybe the city or someone should clean up all the droppings around town.

One more thing, this man who wrote a few weeks ago seems to like them walking around. He carries along a towel or something to wipe his shoes off. I want him to come over to where I live and show us how. Some people can’t lift their feet.

Fergus Falls wants to beautify the city. Well, to me, goose droppings all over town is not helping. Clean it up.

That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.

Too bad you folks don't live in China, you would really have something to whine about. If you don't like the Geese, go someplace else. grow up!

You complain about the geese being near the lake and the river, which is their natural habitat. Have you ever wondered what they think of us moving into their territory and expecting them to adapt? We want to be able to build near lakes and rivers and watch nature all around us, but heaven forbid they do what comes natural and poop on our grass. Maybe we should train them to use porta-potties.

Hey you guys if Wahpeton can look in to deciding what to do with the Pigeon poo problem downtown then maybe Fergus can look into the Geese poo problem.

We send our goose poo to Breck-Wahp on a daily basis via the Otter Tail River. Enjoy your tap-water :)

I think that the geese are part of what makes our town unique- We're very lucky to have them here year-round! I suggest moving to another area where they won't be such a "nuisance" to you...
