Care at LRH changed outlook on Fergus
Published Wednesday, May 14, 2008
As a new and temporary resident of Fergus Falls since October 2007, my recent stay at the Lake Region Hospital has changed my mind and given me a new perspective on whether or not I should move back to Fargo, where I had resided for the past 55 years and had been a very active member of the community both religiously, socially and otherwise.
I moved to Fergus Falls on a temporary basis for medical reasons and to spend time with my daughter Ella, her husband, Don, and their twin daughters, Hanna and Taylor Leapaldt. Despite my undying love for them, I have been seriously considering moving back to Fargo to resume all the activities I had been involved in and miss terribly.
However, my recent stay at Lake Region Hospital has me wondering if I am making the right decision.
I cannot say enough for the truly wonderful, caring, and loving treatment I received from the entire staff at LRH. I have been in various hospitals over the years and I can truly say, without a doubt, that I had never received the wonderful care I did at LRH.
I am hesitant to mention names or categories of staff for fear I will miss someone, and there was not a one that did not treat me with genuine care and concern.
Fergus Falls, you can be proud of your hospital and those involved with the care of their patients. So, particularly to the staff at LRH, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my stay such a wonderful experience and one that has made my recovery much smoother.
Be proud of yourselves and keep up the good work.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by duchess (anonymous) on May 16, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. (Suggest removal)
It is truly a great facility for our area. I moved from Mpls several years ago and cannot say enough about the care I have received at LRH!

As with most everything, there are two sides. You point out the good, here is the other side, one with a not so happy ending. After being told by several of the doctors at LRH that nothing is wrong or a pulled muscle is causing a pain, the diagnosis is bone cancer. The patient explained the pain to the doctors (several) over the course of as many years and had it been properly investigated and appropriate tests performed, it would have been discovered in time to be treated with a positive outlook. Because of the delays in treatment that outlook is grime. Those last two statements are confirmed by a professional medical doctor, one who has mastered his trade and not just "practicing" such as those at LRH. If you truely want a moving expirience at a medical facility, go to Mayo Clinic where each and every person on staff goes out of their way to make you feel as you are the most important person.

You are putting down all staff at LRH just because the doctor made the wrong diagnosis. I didn't hear any mention of the FFMG, the doctors are also part of FFMG. Every article I read about doctors who make errors is putting down LRH. They are not the only staff there. My question for you concernedcitizen is was this person treated in the hospital? If so, did he receive good care from the nursing staff? I have rarely heard bad things about the nursing staff, just the doctors. I think these people deserve to have some credit for keeping the patients comfortable and helping with their pain. Another thing, do you ever make a mistake at your job? Their are alot of diseases and different illnesses out there, I think it would be pretty damn tough to diagnose everyone correctly everytime. I know this is their job, but PEOPLE make mistakes. They are People too!
