Abortion stirs debate
Published Thursday, May 15, 2008
With so many articles printed in the newspapers, each person stating his opinion of what the bible says, there has not been one article on the importance of God's Law the fact that it is necessary to abide by it.
I deal now with the people who support a political party, the Democrats, who insist that abortion be the law of the land and that even Supreme Court Justices should not be considered unless they follow the pack. What they say is it is the woman’s right to choose when it comes to getting rid of a child that is already in the woman's body.
Religion is a personal thing and maybe these liberals just ignore how God would consider the issue of abortion. Certainly God is against abortion, especially the taking of the baby from the mother’s body piece by piece.
God forgives and if these people ask for this, they will get it. But what happens to their trip to heaven when they die by accident or are
taken suddenly with no chance to ask for forgiveness. I believe that should be a problem with all of us and if we claim to be Christians, we should be concerned.
I don't believe, being 92 years old, that those who let the abortion issue just slide by should be allowed to take part in communion holding this belief. Ministers, rabbis and priests should be concerned with members of their churches who hold this belief.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by otterfan (anonymous) on May 15, 2008 at 12:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Christians morality should come from the scriptures. Period.

I think I agree with Harley. But, as I have stated before regarding abortion, it should be a 10th Amendment issue relegating it's legality to the States. The nation is too divided on this to have a blanket law (Roe v Wade). Let Utah ban it and let Connecticut allow it. Or however the individual states decide.

Sorry, not everyone believes in "God's Law" and not everyone is Christian. Keep your religion out of my politics, please.

It is still my choice - I control my decisions. I don't need someone telling me that I can't have communion because I had an abortion. What are you next going to tell me that I can't attend church? You don't know who I am-- I could be the person you work next to, the lady at the grocery store, your teller, your insurance agent, your doctor, your sister or any woman for that matter. It's my choice... Leave it that way.

I think God would be pro-choice.

God performs abortions. We call them miscarriages.

You know, it's not just "Liberals" that undergo abortions. When I was in college, a few self-proclaimed "conservatives" underwent abortions so that they could complete their education and further themselves; thus avoiding the stigma of getting pregnant out of wedlock. Oddly enough, one of these people I speak of is a very vocal opponent of abortion. Perhaps she is trying to ausuage her guilt. Matthew 7, 1-5 states: "Don't judge other people, and you will not be judged. You will be judged In the same way you judge others. The forgiveness you give to others will be given to you". It also goes on to say that you shouldn't notice the speck of dust in your brothers eye, but rather the big piece of wood in your own eye.

Oh great, here come the demonizers. You can tell it's an election year when the conservatives come out and try to sway the 'lesser informed' and so-called 'moral majority' with this particular dead issue. It is a political tactic, just like it's been since the 70's. They'll demonize the free-thinking Democrats and hope their candidates win their campaigns and get into office. Then nothing changes on the abortion issue, but their candidates become positioned to further their needs, just as it was intended to do.
Bush used the abortion issue - got into office - and what changed in the 8 years he's been there? Nothing. Nothing to do with abortion, anyway. And nothing will change because the issue is at an impasse. Nobody in politics wants to open that can of worms because it becomes a quagmire - just like Bush's war in Iraq.
Conservatives with ulterior agendas pretend to take the high road all the time as a means to rally the 'good' people, and the easily-fooled tend to believe they are heaven-bound by association. If only life were that simple. But look at what has happened since they got Bush into office. What's his body count this morning? I think the only beneficiaries of Bush's and Cheney's term will be their BFF's at Haliburton and the Military Industrial Complex. Bush creates and incites terrorism with his foreign policy, then claims we're fighting terrorism (a red herring), all the while capitalizing on it.
Democrats don't want abortions any more than anyone else. We tend to believe that changing the world and making it a better place, where people would want to raise - not abort -their unborn, is the only real solution to the abortion issue. We are realists and see that the taking away of our freedoms, because some zealots think they are punching their ticket to Heaven by voting the lies, is just one more measure that leads us to the oligarchy that's getting stronger by the day here in America.
Have you ever heard the saying, "The rich get richer, the poor - poorer"? How is that possible in a Democracy where the majority of people are supposedly self-determining their human condition. Are we self-loathing fools and want to have to work mutiple jobs to make ends meet, thereby, leaving our children to practically raise themselves? Do we really want an obese society, and job insecurity? Do we really want to live with unbearable debt - having only 'hope' that things will get better?
Our country is in trouble, the statistics are proof, and it's the fault of the people who've given away their free-will by allowing ulterior agenda seekers to determine all of our's fates via the democratic voting process. Ted Haggard was no fallen angel. He had an agenda and had weekly phone conferences with Bush. Ted Haggard conned them all and they helped vote Bush in.
Is America ready for a few centuries of Iraq war, and the continued ballooning deficit from it? If so vote Republican.

Elizaberh is right, God is pro-choice. He gives us the choice to believe him or not. Choose wisely.
