Our local tax dollars are being wasted
Published Wednesday, May 28, 2008
The city administrator and council are wasting money on a consultant study. If we already know the sheriff's department and police department need more space, what is to study?
The options are obvious, the city owns the RTC and we will soon have more empty school buildings. Common sense would be to renovate part of the RTC or one of the abandoned schools to house the police department.
Isn't this the year to make more changes in the city council, whom are responsible for hiring or firing the city administrator?
Another option would be to make the position of mayor, fulltime and alleviate the need of an over paid city administrator, whom the voters have no say about.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by justme (anonymous) on May 28, 2008 at 6:02 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Our local tax dollars are being wasted....
Now that's an understatement if I ever saw one. You've just touched the tip of the iceberg. There's so much more going on that we'll just never know.

I completly agree with you and it's about time our leaders use common sense. I am willing to step up to the plate and try to make some changes. We will see what happens this november.

I voted for the school project the last time. Buiding costs are only going to go up, it's never going to get cheaper. But until the school is paid for, my answer to any new projects for anything, police, city, whatever is NO. No city money for the golf course either, no city money to pump down the lake, thats messing with the environment, and we're brainwashing our kids in school that we can't do that. Let nature take it's course. The people can move.Save an owl. (ad nausium)

"The options are obvious" - Really, Mr Martz? Perhaps to a narrow-minded person they would appear obvious.
Hiring a 3rd-party consultant is the way to find out what ALL of the options are, and what each will cost. A study by an impartial party (that has done similar studies in other communities) will, in the long run, help to save money by laying out all of the costs/options so that an intelligent decision can be made by the City leaders, rather than relying on the "shoot-from-the-hip" bluster that emanates from gadflys like Donald Martz and Dave Thompson.

the only constant in fergus falls is regression. Teachers are being let go, enrollment is down, and yet 31 million dollar school renovations have been passed. Don't get me wrong, Im all about giving our kids the best possible opportunities, but not at the cost of pure retrogradation. Theres very little industry in this slice of "heaven" which is not appealing to young families looking for a place to settle down. If I may be so blunt, Fergus Falls is a place where people come to "wait" for heaven. I know what you may be thinking, "If this place is so bad, why does he put up with it?" My family lives here, and family is most important. And whats up with East Mount Faith? God forbid we fix it up a bit.
