Highway stoplights part of Fergus Wal-Mart project
Published Thursday, June 5, 2008
The addition of stoplights to the intersection of State Highway 210 and Redwood Lane near Wal-Mart is on hold until the discount chain’s expansion project gets underway.
That’s because Wal-Mart is covering the city’s share of the stoplight costs, said City Engineer Dan Edwards.
“Almost all of the cross-traffic...is coming from them as the major business out there,” Edwards said.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will cover the remaining stoplight costs, Edwards said, as 210 is a trunk highway.
Wal-Mart Manager Tim Bosworth said last month the store is waiting on corporate approval for the start of its project. A corporate hold on construction pushed the project back from its original start date of March this year. Renovations at other sites have since resumed and Fergus Falls must simply wait its turn. In early May, Bosworth said the target completion date of the project is 2010.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by justme (anonymous) on June 5, 2008 at 12:15 p.m. (Suggest removal)
This is so unfortunate. This intersection has been dangerous for years, and even with the temporary stop signs, will remain so, Supercenter or not. WalMart should step up no matter what happens with construction plans.

I think Walmart is doing more than it's share paying for the stoplight. It is a major intersection, and if the city cared at all, they should just pay for it, and get it added now, rather than waiting for 2-3 more years and for 2-3 more deadly accidents. It is true, most of the traffic is from Walmart, but if people would pay attention while driving... this wouldn't be a problem!

Not to take focus off the topic but the intersection at Target is one that could also benefit from some attention.
