It’s unbelievable that June is here already

Published Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Already June...the fresh scent of newly-cut grass, school’s out for summer...and motorcycle season (some I know have been riding long before this!).

I feel that I must write a short note, as my husband and I ride and many, many of our friends and family also ride. That being said...keep an eye out for motorcyclists. We ride for the sheer love of the freedom a motorcycle can give us...the feeling of air through your hair (if you have any).

Motorists: Please take a few minutes at the next intersection...really look for us, we are looking for you! Alas, sometimes a motorist isn't paying attention...too busy talking on the cell. That's when accidents happen, deadly ones.

I actually witnessed a young woman smoking a cigarette with her left hand and talking on the cell with the right, makes you wonder how she was steering her SUV, huh? Also, with so many charity motorcycle "runs" in the works for this year, you may find yourself being stopped at an intersection by a tough looking biker.

Don't worry...we're harm-less but the job of "road guard" is one we all take very seriously. Our job is to protect our fellow brothers and sisters as we ride for a cause.

The moral: Be patient. Slow down. Stay safe! And take advantage of the area's benefit "runs", your support helps many local causes..so stop by one, buy a raffle ticket, have supper with us...no bike needed, just a heart! Thank you and see you on the road!

Read her letter - "I actually witnessed a young woman smoking a cigarette with her left hand and talking on the cell with the right, makes you wonder how she was steering her SUV, huh?"

I like to call a spade a spade... Did this writer give up smoking or talking on her cell????? I don't think so...

No, the point is that it is just as stupid for a biker to smoke and drive with one hand as it is to drive a car with no hands. Try doing a quick stop on a bike with one hand sometime. In many of these cases, Darwin will intervene and take the stupidity out of the gene pool.
