The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by gumball (anonymous) on June 15, 2008 at 7:36 p.m. (Suggest removal)
To be exact, it happened at the Long Lake public access road. A car was turning left to go down the public access road. The motorcyclist was going to pass her on the left when she was making her turn. My condolescences to the family of the victim. My heart goes out to the driver of the car too, there was nothing you could have done.

My thoughts are also out for the families, cause one of my co-workers was dating the guy who died.
Judging by this information, was it the guy on the motorcycles fault? Did the driver/s in the car make it?
Please keep them in your prayers.

Not sure, Clkrr.
Out of respect to the victim's family, I don't want to post any more details about the accident. I lived up the road from that spot. That section of County Rd 27 is a long sharp curve. On one side is a steep hill with a water channel at the bottom. It's just a hazardous section, just like the intersection of Cty 27 that goes into Elizabeth.

It's been a while since I've been back to Fergus, but is this the road that you take to go crappie fishing at the Long Lake Channel? Also, I agree with gumball, the intersection of 22 and 27 is dangerous. I had a place on Jewett many years back and that is a place where an accident is ready to happen.
I'm praying for comfort for all who are so deeply touched by this tradgedy.

First i want to thank those that are concerned for the family of the victim and the drive of the car. I am a family member of the victim so there for i am aware of how this tragedy took place so to clarify the rumors...My family member was on his way into town and the driver of the car was in front of him the driver was lost so she pulled over to the side of the road at which time the motorcyclist thought she had stop so he continued to drive, the car did not see him due to blind spots so she procided to make a left turn and collided into him,the both of them went into the ditch at which time two fisher men ran up and tried to revive my family member but it was to late. It only took one second and or loved one was ripped out of our lives forever. The victim was a loving caring man that will be missed by many. For the driver of the car i am sorry this had to happen to you and my prayers are with you. To everyone who reads this please drive more careful and double check all your mirrors before prociding into traffic i would hate for this to happen again. This is a horrible tragedy that some may never be able to get over so please keep all of us in your prayers. One more thing i want to thank the fisher men whom ever you may be you did a brave good deed so thank you for all you efforts.

So unfortunate for all families involved. The bottom line is that you can never be too safe. Drivers are too distracted and don't take the time to look at every possibility before making a judgement behind the wheel.

My sympathy to all that are involved. As a motorcyclist, I always stress to other riders the importance of taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation training. See the following link, http://www.motorcyclesafety.state.mn.us/...
and schedule up a training class. They have advanced classes for experienced riders. Most motorcyclists on the road are not capable of performing simple evasive manuevering. The MSF teaches these techniques as well as defensive riding. As seen here, the costs of making a mistake can be your life.
