Questions answered on the Walk of Flags
Published Tuesday, June 17, 2008
The story in the Daily Journal (Saturday, May 22, 2008) about the veterans Walk of Flags Inc., created lots of interest and questions in the community about the organization. A couple of the most-asked questions are what kind of an organization is it and who is on the board of directors.
The organization is a 501(c)3 non-profit with the purpose of selling and displaying flags to honor all military veterans living or deceased.
The organization has a nine-member board to oversee the operation, buy and sell flags, and keep all the equipment in working order.
At the present time, the board members are Perrie Sheldon, CEO; Bert Hoffman, president; Elias Larson, vice president; Mary Morris, treasurer; Noble Hatling, secretary; and board members Stan Quam, Bob Gadow, Dorothy Moen and Mary Ellen Solley.
At this time, the volunteers are setting out about 1,415 flags.
The large project would not be done if it were not for the 40-plus volunteers who show up early holiday mornings to put up the flags and remove them late in the afternoon. Many thanks.
For more information on the organization or to volunteer, call 736-3848.
Bert Hoffman, President - Veterans Walk of Flags, Inc.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by monk (anonymous) on June 17, 2008 at 1:06 p.m. (Suggest removal)
The flags are a beautiful sight to see. Thank you to the organization and those who have spent many hours making it happen.

Yes, it is such a wonderful thing to see. My children's faces light up as they point and say "look at all the flags". My family from out of town has also enjoyed seeing the Walk of Flags when they have been visiting. This is a wonderful thing for Fergus Falls to be able to enjoy. THANK-YOU!

My family and I have bought quite a few flags to honor our family members that have served our country! I am very honored that this service is available to our heros! It is such a beautiful sight to see when you drive around the city! Thanks again!

They also make great birthday, christmas, fathers and mothers day gifts. About $75, plus they will sell a walk of flags hat, for a few bucks more. Just watch the eyes light up on the person your buying it for when they open the envelope with notice of the gift inside. ( which will also have the number of their flag on it) They can't hardly wait to go try to find their flag among the masses. I think it also gives the area their flag will be.

This is a marvelous program and precisely what small towns like Fergus Falls are all about. We need more emphasis on the positive around here and less whining and complaining from the backward hat crowd.
Fergus Falls is a wonderful community and you should be proud of it.
Oh yeah, it DOES need a couple things but I'll get to that later. Ha!
