Sunken snowmobile hooked after six years

Published Friday, June 27, 2008

When four fishermen headed out on Lake Blanche last week, the bounty they reeled in was bigger than they bargained for.

According to Conservation Officer Gary Forsberg of the Department of Natural Resources, the fisherman were out in 6 to 8 feet of water late last week when they came across a submerged snowmobile. Forsberg said he believes one of the fishermen entered the water and attached a hook to the vehicle. The fishermen then used boats to haul the snowmobile out of the water before contacting Forsberg and fellow conservation officer Tricia Plautz of Henning.

With help from Arctic Cat, Plautz later identified the craft’s owner, learning the man had died about a year ago; his death was unrelated to the sunken snowmobile. In conversations with a neighbor of the owner, authorities learned the man had dropped the snowmobile through the ice back in 2002 or 2003.

“When he went back to retrieve it, he couldn’t find it,” Forsberg said.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.

Getting back to this OJ thing... Why is the journal prohibiting comments regarding the story. they published it, why can't they allow open dialog?

The OJ thing and no comments allowed. Hopefully because the heads at the Fergus Falls Daily Journal are hung low in embarassment for making headline news out of a criminal in our midst. Shame on them!

Good question ginger_ale and good response land. It would have been fun reading the OJ posts, but what would have been said has already been said a countless times over and over, but nothing is stopping anyone from starting one right here. Let 'er rip.

You have to ask why Jeff won't allow comments in response to his fine piece of work, or to the second article printed today, in defense of the first? Because he's trying to become editor of the year and nobody's going to tell him any different. (aka When it's your sandbox, you get to make the rules)

It's like putting your fingers in your ears, closing your eyes, and going la-la-la-la-la-la-la. See no evil, hear no evil, and for sure, speak (write) nothing evil about a guy that brutally killed 2 people. On a related note, check out the FFDJ video of OJ's golf swing - looks like Charles Barkley's swing. You'd think that a guy like OJ would at least have learned some golf fundamentals, given the amount of time that he spends searching for the real killer on every golf course in America.
