Officer returns child, gets hit

Published Monday, July 14, 2008

A Fergus Falls man was arrested Friday evening after his 23-month-old child was found wandering alone in Athletic Park.

Adam Francis Doehring, 28, became combative when officers arrived at his home to investigate an incident involving Doehring’s child. According to Fergus Falls police, a witness reported seeing a small child playing alone in Athletic Park for roughly 15 minutes. When police officers returned the child to Doehring’s residence on the 400 block of West Summit, Doehring became upset, striking an officer in the face and kicking him in the leg. He was tasered to gain compliance, arrested and taken to the Otter Tail County Detention Facility.

The child’s mother arrived home during the police visit and took over care of the child.

If he's got the gall to attack a police officer, what has this child endured in that home? The mother should be given an ultimatum - ditch the heathen and keep your child or let the county find him a safe home.

A 23 month old toddler should NEVER be playing in a park UNSUPERVISED.

What I don't get, is how can someone who harrasses an officer and let his child wonder off, be out of the slammer already??? Does this make any sense? This is where the system is messed up. Yes, the parent is at fault for letting the child wonder, but why is he not still being held, not only for the things he did, but to protect this child! Hitting and kicking an officer is serious, and if he was willing to do this to a figure of authority, not to mention, someone with a gun, can you imagine what he would do to a child who caused him to go to jail??

Unknown what other details are there? A two year old child was at the park alone and an office was assaulted. I don't think any other details are going to change the fact that both of those actions are illegal!

Thank you mommom. When a child is in danger, it becomes the business of the authorities, and it becomes my business and your business if we had witnesssed it as well. What would have happened if a well-meaning citizen had brought that child home, instead of a uniformed police officer? I shudder to think of the possibilities. We never get all of the details from the paper, but fergusmnmom is right, it doesn't matter in this case.

unknown - how about this story - Adam Francis Doehring - convicted of Criminal Damage to Property in 2000, Disorderly Conduct in 2001, and Domestic Assault in 2004. Another fine, upstanding citizen.
