Hearing set for electronic sign
Published Tuesday, July 15, 2008
The Fergus Falls Planning Commission will hold a public hearing in two weeks regarding an electronic reader board outside the future Walgreens on Lincoln Avenue.
Like other Fergus Falls businesses, Walgreens must obtain a conditional use permit from the city before it can erect an electric sign, which would display promotions and other announcements.
“We’re mainly worried about distractions and line setbacks and that they’re using it for the right thing,” said Gordon Hydukovich, community development director.
Other locations featuring similar signs include Cullen’s Home Center and Life Church. WestRidge Mall has an electronic sign mounted on the side of the building.
The public hearing, set for July 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall lunchroom, will allow residents to share input on the sign before a permit is granted.

Uhm.. I'd say no on this one. Those signs are quite distracting for drivers and having another in that area of town could be quite dangerous.

Uhm........it is the 21st Century folks. I suppose they could get 2 x 4's and a piece of plywood and make a nice sign. Now that wouldn't be distracting.

Drivers should be looking at the road and not up at a sign. Plus the old people who aren't supposed to be driving anyway won't see it because they can't see. Go with a sign and make this town somewhat of a modern one. Besides Park Region has one.

Anyone know what this means? "worried,,,, that they’re using it for the right thing,” said Gordon Hydukovich". What else would they use the sign for except for the right thing such as in-store promotions or like I remember Service Food doing by promoting civic stuff i.e. church dinners, school events. Why would the City Fathers be concerned about what Walgreen would put on the sign?
