School news is good news
Published Friday, July 25, 2008
It’s good news that many of the Fergus Falls teachers who found themselves without jobs last spring could find themselves re-employed with the school district.
It was a tough pill to swallow in March when we learned that in an effort to balance the books as many as 30 teaching positions were going on the chopping block.
But because of retirements, leaves of absences and some employment opportunities for teachers in other districts, more than half of the teachers on that original “unrequested leave” list could be asked to return to the district.
That’s a win-win situation for all involved. The teachers will remain employed, the district will retain teachers familiar with its students, goals, and policies, and the students will continue to have familiar faces teaching them.
It’s also encouraging to learn that a teacher position needed to be added in the kindergarten section because of increased enrollment numbers.
Let’s hope that’s a trend that continues.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by toad3 (anonymous) on August 1, 2008 at 4:32 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I would like to encourage the middle school and high school to replace the flags. They are in awful shape! I checked them out last week. Replace or put up new flags. I would not be surprised if the Superintendent is not a veteran. I am and I don't like to see the Flag faded or in shreds.
