Hospital locked down for search
Police search for employee asked to stay off property.
Published Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Fergus Falls police responded to Lake Region Hospital and the Fergus Falls Medical Group clinic Tuesday morning after a reported trespassing by a current employee.
The employee had been asked by hospital staff not to be on the grounds for the next two weeks, said Sgt. Jeff Hohrman, who also works security part-time at the hospital and clinic. At about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, police received a call from an employee on the hospital’s third floor who said she saw the employee in question in a white lab coat standing on the northeast corner of the grounds. Police could not locate the man upon arrival, and Hohrman said he cannot confirm if the person on the grounds was the restricted employee.
The restricted employee is reportedly a doctor.
The incident coincides with the implementation of a new security plan at the hospital and clinic Monday. With the exception of the main doors, all entrances to the hospital and clinic are now locked, Hohrman said. Uniformed security are also on-hand around the clock for the next couple of weeks, he said. In the past, uniformed security were available only from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., with other hospital staff addressing any security concerns during the day.
Hohrman would not comment on whether the new security policy is related to the no-trespassing request.

SO if this Doctor is such a threat, then why isn't he being arrested? Sounds a little fishy, and having family that works at both hospital and clinic, makes me wonder what in the world is going on considering the employees have no clue either!

Obviously, there is an ongoing investigation and leaking of details would compromise that. It's very possible that this is the first time they have had to investigate an employee and although it seems like such a big ordeal to the rest of us, we should be glad there is a such a plan in place to protect employees and patients.

I’m surprised to see any part of this story in the paper. If the general public had not seen the cops swarming around the hospital yesterday nothing about this incident would ever, ever appear in print. Our fabulous, wonderful, can do no wrong hospital and medical center, would have crushed even this hollow story in its infancy.

If the infraction was enough to warrant 24/7 security, why is this person still on the staff?

all I know is that during my most recent hospital stay I feel I was treated wonderfully for the most part, my life was saved there!
there may be an overworked employee or even a flat out bad egg right now but, easily the majority of staff in our hospital deserve our gratitude.
I do recall being treated rather oddly and inappropriately by a man operating the big electromagnetic coffin he stuffed me in. that guy cursed at himself and seemed really stressed. he also wore a white labcoat

I agree with you Jamie! I had a baby at LRH this past year and my experience was so much better than other hospitals I have been too! Top notch! I think it is important to point out that the clinic and the hospital are completely separate entities, even though they are physically connected. The drama at the clinic should not reflect on LRH.

The medical folks, police and community leaders should IMMEDIATELY jump all over this by disclosing WHAT is going on and, if it is indeed an MD, WHICH doctor it is. The rumor mill is going to besmirch the reputations of both entities. The longer this goes on unresolved the more it is going to hurt the community.
Somebody with some smarts better quickly figure out how to do this without opening the businesses or the community to legal action.
Baaaaad situation here folks!

ok well i know who this doctor is. i cannnot say, but he has done nothing wrong. i even saw him at 9:20 in the morning yesterday. the people who should be suspended are the FFMG administration. he has not been treated fairly at all. the hospital and this doctor has done nothing wrong, the clinic is out-of-order.

oh my... newshound you are so right we should do everything possible to cover up the truth so that the lawyers don't get involved. How pathetic. Maybe the paper should provide a better article so we don't have to read an ongoing blog of speculation.

I agree that more details of this should be released ASAP.
I am not brown nosing anyone, I just feel my life was saved by our local hospital, that's not to say another hospital couldn't have done a better job (ect), in fact I did mention a belligerent employee, but the fact is, most of my stay here was as pleasant as it could be given the circumstances, and my life was saved!

Wow, amazing how does a story about the Medical Group and hospital turn into free advertising for cooper for city council? Unbelievable - lol. Back to the story at hand, I too have an adult child that works at the hospital, and I hope the security measures taken are what are needed to keep the employees and patients safe, and I hope the news keeps us up to date on what is really going on, it seems to be just kind of an odd story presented on the journal-- not many details, but enough to get everyone talking.

First of all I would like to say to fergusfallsmom, if you read the artical correctly, it says hospital staff asked the employee to stay off grounds for the next two weeks. Did it say FFMG?? I think you have the drama at the wrong business. Second of all, does everyone in this town think that FFMG and LRH are one !!?? They are two seperate enities connected by a door. Last, but not least, this certainly was not meant for the public.

Ubetcha, I think you missed my point. If SOMEBODY does not get on top of this and get the ACTUAL facts out you then create a situation where all sorts of bad things might happen. I did not suggest that anybody try to "hide" things-just the opposite.
Sorry but I can't fathom your reasoning?

If the police were looking for him in the parking lot or on hospital grounds and couldn't find the guy, wouldn't the next place you look be his home? When a bunch of policemen show up looking for someone, and now 24/7 security is in place it indicates the possibility of a dangerous situation.

So do people think you can have as many employees which are at LRH or FFMG , and each and everyone is a saint?
Stats would prove different. Or is everyone in Fergus Falls in a bubble?
Posted by Generally_Misunderstood (anonymous) on August 14, 2008 at 1:08 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Ubetcha, did you even read the same article as Newshound and the rest of us? Newshound only asked that The Powers That Be at the FFMG & LRH clarify what happened so the truth comes out instead of the rumor mongering that is occurring throughout town. Far better to release a statement about what happened then to allow conjecture to runs its course.
OMG, as for your comment about the difference between LRH and FFMG, yes the "hospital" is mentioned as the main part of the article and not the clinic. However, the employee 'rumored' to be a doctor is not an employee of LRH, but that of the FFMG. This is easily verified from each corporate website. So suffice to say that it's more so the FFMG with the drama then LRH in this particular instance.
Everyone can have a bad day and say things they might not mean in the moment of passion. Before the lynch mob mounts their noble steeds I urge a bit of caution.

Omg.....futhermore the quote was not from the "hospital staff" but rather the police officer. So again, people think it is all the same and it is not. Even the police officer made the mistake in his quote. The employee in question was not standing in or on 3rd floor but rather the "grounds"
Please read more carefully before you jump all over me omg
Unless you work for HR at LRH or FFMG I stand by my post.

The Hospital and the Clinic are "SEPERATE" facilities even though they are connected. Third floor to the NE corner of the Clinic lot, I find it hard to believe that the employee could positivly identify the restricted person at this distance. The restricted individual is not in custody as there has been no crime commited. Sgt. Hohrman is not employeed by FFMG. The circumstances leading up to this is a "Need To Know" basis. The people that "Need To Know" are the ones that are responsible for keeping the rest of us safe. The new Security Plan is something that should have been in place long ago for the safety of Patients, Staff and Visitors. This employee should have immediatly had another co-worker "Positivly" identify the individual prior to reporting. The individual was not found at the reported location. In my opinion this article was Totally unnecessary and has blown this whole issue out of proportion.

Everyone who works at the FFMG, and the LRH were given strict orders that if they seen this Dr. or thought it was him they were to IMMEDIATELY call 911, not their supervisors, or any other employees. I Know this because of all of my relatives that work their, and by the one's scared phone call to me after the whole incident took place.
Something happened, otherwise they wouldn't be putting the public in harms way by causing such a rucuss over the ordeal. Some people can't handle stressfull situations, expecially those in the hospital, or on a doctors visit. We were there monday and if my daughter would have seen what was going on she would have been really scared. So, there must be good reasoning behind the decisions of both the hospital and clinic board to make this decision. As to why he's still on the loose in the community, makes no sense at all. As if he's a threat to such a large part of the community, then he's a threat to the WHOLE community! Just wish we knew what he did to make this such a huge deal.

I have a feeling that this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion.
The hospital tried to handle a situation that now has leaked out and looks far worse than it is.
If it was serious I think he would have been arrested.
As far as LRH and the medical group being the same. The Doctors work for LRH and they are partners in the Medical Group. They own the clinic, so in a way they are connected by more than a door.
I also have to say that seeing people who are running for council using this forum for propaganda is humorous! I know that I do not want this person making any decisions on my behalf!

Sumwun, the only thing I feel should be pointed out is that you posted a response to ffguy, before he posted the original comment you replied to.
I was making a statement about the quality of our heath care,
whether or not I am elected to a public position doesn't negate the relevance of my comments or right to testify to the quality of care our local medical staff provided for me, which literally saved my life.
I would hope you wouldn't throw out a whole dozen of eggs because one of them was cracked? easily the vast majority of the FFMG are doing their best to provide the best health care they are able.
on a bit of a different note but relevant to the story, I think officer Hohrman, may very well be the best officer this city has ever had, he is the perfect example of how our law enforcement should conducted!
thanks!

To Tmalve, Have you ever been on the third floor? Can you honestly say what you can or cannot see from there? How can you condem an employee from doing what they are told to do? In your opinion this article was unnecessary and blown out of proportions. How do you know were you there? Do you know something we don't know? If this Doctor is so innocent why doesn't he come forward and tell his side of the story? If this was not something serious do you really think the police would swarm the hospital? The truth will come out

While the Cooper bashing is completely and utterly off topic I don't blame him for using the DJ. They have the right to publish or not publish and if they are willing to do it then so be it but please don't be so droll as to blame Mr.Cooper for using what he has availiable to him.
Further The Hospital has no law stating that they have to disclose any information about this to anyone unless there is a direct threat to their patients and no action had been taken which their obviously was. Futher there are complex confidentiality laws in place for doctor's and employee's of hospitals. So for all you rumor mongers who want to know the Hospital is under no legal obligation to tell you anything until the matter has been resolved and even then only if it had been a matter of public health.

if you want something to bellyache about I guess the following is more like campaigning.
just so you can see the difference!
there are 13,471 residents in Fergus falls according the last census.
my "life's amazing miracles" video has 17,142 Views and nearly the highest rating from viewers that can be attained on youtube.
to win this election I would only need 3,000 to 3,500 votes at the most.
I am the only candidate who has brought an actual agenda with solutions to concerns residents of all ages and backgrounds have been complaining about for over a decade.
thank you!
please vote Jamie Cooper for ward one this November.

Wow- I was just commenting on how your "campaigning" was brought up under this story-- but I see you found a way to continue it on- my personal opinion on the subject was just a short comment, I meant to mainly comment on the LRH story but was amazed to see campaign stuff under this subject, at this point I feel even my responding to your comment is allowing you to self promote even more-- which is fine, but under this story?? I would leave the campaigning comments to your story-- not under other newsworthy articles.... just my thoughts, and I should state again, deep in my heart I know I shouldn't even respond to your comment, but I was too tempted to explain.

hometown, if law enforcement was called, I would have to say LRH found some potential threat. Enough of a threat that it created a story for the DJ. As for Doctors and confidentiality, that only applies to their patients and patient's file, and not everything related to them and their employment. So, once law enforcement became involved, it became public. And unfortunately as of late, Jamie Cooper is part of our public.

alwayshere, I understand where you are coming from, for the most part it was tsy86h, with the mocking and accusing remarks, but if I am to endure your accusations, and flat-out insults, I might as well make the best of it.
if I am to be accused of campaigning by simply offering my opinion as to how my experiences with our local medical community have been recently in regard to a story about those same people, I figured I might as well throw some campaigning out there.
essentially by enduring your remarks I feel I earn the privilege, and thought I would also demonstrate the difference to those who apparently can't differentiate the two.

Obviously you do not work at either facility and your relatives misinformed you. Staff WERE NOT instructed to IMMEADIATLY call 911. I am not going to explain the specific instructions as it is not public info.
To grandma,
I have been on Third Floor many times and I can Honestly say what a person can and cannot see from there. I am not condeming the empl. for following the specific instructions, I am seriously Questioning the positive identification from the employees location.
hometown,
you are 100% correct on your comment about the Hospital.
Flashbang,
The Police have no reason to go to the individuals home, no "CRIME" has been commited.
The Hospital has "SPECIFIC" protocal to follow regardless of the threat level. The Hospital and the clinic are responsible for the "SAFETY" of many people.

shunka, you mean, after both convictions I have on my record? all two that is, via Alfred plea, which is not a admission of guilt or so I was told by the court appointed liar
which Ive explained in detail and even provided a video of the 2nd incident
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWGMDb3Jk...
but you got a point,
I don't know if I could count how many times polics have been to my home or how many search warrants I have received?
kinda strange how 15 years of harassment has only brought 2 convictions, both of which stink of injustice.
I always wondered why the police seemed out to get me. thank you shunka, for revealing why.
because of my neighborhood, shunka, has perty much suggested that I must be guilty of many things if there has been criminals in my neighborhood, even suggesting it is my personal responsibility to be a vigilante? or something?
apparently you are not aware that disrupter is a record company? but it is
I don't and have never called myself "666", however
if you want me to explain what I believe about the "human number" then read on.
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
the "human number" or "666" when viewed with understanding, as suggested reveals "NRWN QSR" or when translated to the modern version "NERO CAESAR"
http://www.ecclesia.org/truth/beast.html...
to me Nero represents tyranny and rulers completely gone mad. the modern day "666" reminds me of how far removed original meanings have been lost.
as a Minister of the Universal Life Church of Modesto CA.
I am considered a Unitarian.
I hope some of you are beginning to see why I feel some things need to change in this city!
do you feel I deserve these constant attacks?
I feel this last one is one of our local police, because I've heard this same type of banter from one over and over.
always warping my words and trying to criminalize me, they even tried to fine me because my neighbor had a unlicenced car in his yard this spring.
I don't dare say this officers name but I'm betting the video I posted has angered him quite a lot, and do you see now why I have concerns as to my safety with people like this one out there all but flat out threatening me and accusing me because the only house I could afford was in a neighborhood some criminals have also lived in.
how can you condone and support this?
they want to call me a devil worshiper so people will think I'm less than human when he next attacks and I'm something that deserves to be destroyed, so you would be willing to ignore my rights being violated, and look the other way, because otherwise you would be siding with the devil.
this is no different than what happened during the Salem witch trials.
how much more obvious do things need to get, before you will support the changes I am proposing?

"I am an ordained minister of the ULC!"
yeah, right! and so is anyone else that would so desire. the only requirement is that you fill out the simple online form and wait for the reply indicating that your name is on the list of universal life church ordained. now isnt that an accomplishment. this organization will ordain anyone. it has no doctrine. just says the ordained should act properly. now i suppose you feel that was what you were doing in the video. i guess its your call. they ordain and sell training kits to all types. wiccan, paganism, or whatever you wish to worship. call yourself a minister if you wish. maybe, if you are lucky, you will be able to call yourself commissioner too. it wont bother me any. have your fun!

I feel the spitting pudding video is funny!
I assure you noone was harmed as a result, I apologize if it has made it hard for some to support the ideas I am offering, but what is of the greater importance? the agenda I put together is a great one, and you know it!
sure I spit some pudding in a video and have had more than my share of adversity, I also feel that just because someone claims to be the mouth of God on earth, that there's a possibility that that individual may not.
I don't recall any biblical passage that commands that WE attend seminary in order to assist others in finding their peace or salvation.
who is to say how God or Spirituality may find a person best? "Judge Not Lest Ye be Judged"
that's why I don't judge the beliefs of others and haven't been pushing mine. I am certainly not a Devil worshiper as has been suggested. I researched various religions from many nations, over the course of 9 years, I focused most of my studies in Israel and Egypt.
commissioner? why have you brought that up now a few times?

Tmalve, so are you an employee of either place? Do you happen to work at the same exact place as all 3 of my relatives? Each being different? So each maybe getting different instructions on what to do? Like the front entrance of the clinic? Where most traffic comes from? If you do work for all 3 locations, wow. If not, then how do you know what they were told to do in the situation they see this Doctor? Absolutely none of my relatives have a clue as to what this Doctor did, but whatever it was, my one relative was told to call 911 immediately if she saw him in or near the clinic. She is the one who called me, as she was first hand witness to all of the squad cars surrounding the clinic. In the world we live in today, nothing can be taken lightly, as you seem to know because of you getting so jumpy on mine and grammy's comments. I know the name of this Doctor, but have no idea as to why HE is being treated this way, or as to why he is such a threat to the LRH and FFMG. But whatever it is, like I said in my earlier statement, He must have done something bad enough to create such a rise. Guess what, it is public info when pretty much it is the public that occupies both buidings at all times! Considering these are places I am supposed to bring my family and know we are safe from any BS,it is a need to know basis. I sure the hell am not going to bring my kids into some place where they think an employee is a threat for whatever reason. So, if you know for sure as to what employees were told to do, great, I hope you do what it takes to keep the community safe. If the cops came a running and locked everything down just because he was seen in the parking lot, I'd hate to see the ruckuss it causes when they have to raid the building because he some how got in because no one called 911! Wouldn't you hate to be in the clinic/hospital when that happens? Didn't think so. Oh, if you are an employee, I trust that you would do all you could to keep my family, and others safe, and do what you thought was right.

Oh,and since he isn't allowed on the property of either places for the next two weeks, they are more than likely searching every nook and cranny of his office for some incriminating evidence to whatever it was that he did, and they are worried he will take whatever it is out of his work place. So, there probably is no physical threat at the moment from him, unless whatever it is they have on him, isn't something he wants found. He has an awesome background, and is super super smart, so lets hope he lets the investigation continue with no hiccups.

"City Commission government is a form of municipal government which was once common in the United States, but many cities which were formerly governed by commission have since switched to the Council-Manager form of government. Proponents of the latter form typically consider the city commission to be the predecessor of, not the alternative to, the council-manager form of government."(wiki)

tsy86h, I realize your life has been completely changed and your twisted mind can't quite grasp a little humor, but the point in suggesting the posts that are completely unrelated to the topic of "Hospital locked down for search", should be removed, was in an effort to perhaps, help keep things a bit organized.
although I do have concerns regarding a couple local officers, who have shown themselves to be brutal and conduct themselves well outside the law, the main purpose of my suggestion was as I said.
your obsession, with my music videos and blind faith in every single person employed as an officer is not only disturbing it is just simply unrealistic.
it never occurred to me that someone would assume the reason I was spitting pudding would be to mimic an actual mucus plug, the reason I spit pudding saying the words mucous plug, is because when I hear the words "mucous plug"
it has always made me feel queasy

"it has always made me feel queasy"
no kidding? likewise, your video makes some citizens feel 'uneasy'.
you dont seem to mind being in a video saying those words, mr cooper. you said it was all for fun.

I do occasionally find proper language humorous.
for instance another medical term I find kind of disgusting, but also humorous, is the older and still generally accepted and widely used medical term for Gynecomastia.
I always imagine how tormenting this condition must be for it's suffers.

Jamie-
May I make a suggestion. MOVE ON. I appreciate and respect everything you have to say, and wish you the best, but if I may kindly suggest. QUIT WASTING YOUR TIME. If you are as serious as you say you are for running for city council, GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. You have made your presence known on the DJ site, I think EVERYONE ON THIS SITE KNOWS YOUR WHOLE LIFE STORY. Maybe now you should start selling yourself to the rest of Fergus Falls, there are alot more people out there, who may like to here what your have to say. If you feel like you have hit every corner of Fergus Falls with your campaigning, may I suggest doing something else productive. Volunteering, candy stripping, etc. Yes, I am sure you have and do currently do lots of it already. But the time you spend here responding to these peoples tauntings (sp) is rediculous. Move on.

It isn't a matter of where anybody works in either building, the matter is safety. And that's all that we the public should be concerned about at this point. I also feel for the Doc. because if this is all blown out of proportion the way it is getting, he could end up with a bad rep regardless of what the outcome is.

diadres, Sorry I did not know where your relitives worked.
You stated that "Everyone that workes at the FFMG/HOSPITAL was to IMMEADIATLY call 911 not their supervisors", I was correcting that comment as the specific instructions were not the same for both facilities. The "not public info" I am refering to is the instructions staff were to follow. I know who the individual in question is. Due to the individual in question and the distance from which the identification was made, I feel that it should have been IMMEADIATLY verified by another empl. from either facility.
To my knowledge his Patient care is outstanding, very knowledgeable in his profession.

Is the DJ going to do a follow-up on this story or is it dead? I'd like to see what's going on with all this. And to Tmalve, if he was on the grounds wouldn't that violate his suspension? Even though it might not constitute an arrest, the police have every right to check on a person that has violated a suspenstion, even if there is evidence that he MAY have. Is is wrong just to check, or would we rather protect his rights rather than the possibility of protecting others? I'm for protecting people and the rights of everyone, but our rights in America come with one caviat and that is you must obey the laws set forth.

This story should have not been reported by The Journal umtil all the facts to this story were discovered. Needless gossip only leads to more speculation by people with an over imagination.

From what I now know the employee did indeed tell another employee IMMEADITLY that she thought she saw the person in question and she is not the one who called 911

Why did a comment about the LRH turn into a "Let's all bash Jamie Cooper"? If you don't like him, then don't vote for him. The comments on here about his running for City Council are not what this article's topic was about and Jamie did comment on the article, NOT on his election until others wanted to bring it to the table, then complain that he is using the DJ as a means of propaganda. From where I'm sitting, you started it, and he figured since hes already been accused, he may as well do it.

metasonics (aka Jamie Cooper) has posted 20 pages of comments here in the past month (nearly 200 posts) in his self-centered quest for attention and "celebrity". He has demonstrated two things in those posts; A) he thinks he knows a lot about everything, and B) anything bad that has happened in his life was not his fault. I personally hope that he files for the Council, and that the Daily Journal will give an equal amount of free publicity to those he is challenging.

lookitup, you sound like a muckraking TV political commercial.
I have the right to free speech!, this does not quantify me as being on a "self-centered quest"
I have been and probably will be a celebrity of sorts my entire life whether I embrace it or not!
explain to me what is self-centered about my following proposal?
I think I may have a solution to benefit all concerned except those who support foreign interests.
after a great deal of consideration and in hopes of finding a mutual solution for all of us in this city.
I propose that the former RTC be renovated to preserve the historical integrity of at least the oldest structures as well as to be fit for what I am offering.
I would like to see it become the new ottertail county historical museum, additionally, I would like to see our public library move operations to this location as well.
the current site of the museum could be reused for retail or other business offerings, the library could expand to fill as much room as they need, while WE as a community could stop hiding from the history of the RTC which is both gruesome and wholesome, and instead embrace our past and preserve it for future generations.
we could perhaps move the offices for our entire historical society to the RTC as well.
this would provide both reuse and preservation of this landmark.
We could stop trying to hide from our history, which is impossible anyway.
the 3000+ graves could remain untouched and un-desecrated, and instead would could honor those lost souls.
We have a great opportunity here to provide education as well as solve the concerns of so many of our community.
I haven't talked with anyone who could help facilitate this proposal, instead I am bringing it directly to YOU to decide and voice your opinions as to how you feel.
this is Your community and these are the type of solutions you can expect from me, should you decide to vote for me to represent you this November.
thank you,
Jamie Cooper
