Vote for Eric Obama!
Published Friday, August 15, 2008
If it bothers you that Barack Obama has a Muslim background, just remember he is now a Christian.
Some people change their names when they begin their Christian work. For example, Saul became Paul. If it helps to see him as one of us, call Barack “Eric.” Vote for “Eric” Obama.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by 20yrs_old (anonymous) on August 15, 2008 at 1:04 p.m. (Suggest removal)

For your information, Barack was never a Muslim. He was born in Hawaii and moved to Indonesia where he attended a Catholic Grade School. He was born a Christian, went to a Christian School, was raised by his christian grandparents in Kansas, had his fun as a teenager and later on became involved in the Christian Church in S. Chicago. He also found time to attend Harvard Law School. What's this Muslim stuff?

I always wonder to myself, even if Barack were a Muslim, why would that be a bad thing?! He has to defend his faith over and over again as though being a Muslim is the worst thing in the world. Just goes to show you how much pure ignorance there is out there.

mgd, I beg to correct you. Obama, while in Indonesia did attend a Muslim school from the age of 6 to 10, not a Catholic school. That is where the talk of being a muslim comes from. He had Muslim influence during that period.

And for what it's worth....Barack did go by "Barry" back in his Harvard days. Trying to fit in with the rest of the white Anglo guys, I guess. Kind of like when Geraldo Rivera went by "Jerry Rivers" in his early journalism days. It's not uncommon. The "Eric" Obama thing cracks me up, though. How random. LOL

How about we just drop the Obama and use his middle name? That should clear up the Muslim issue for everyone.

goingfishing; Wrong, he attended a Catholic School. He never attended a Muslim School. He was asked that question, and his response was a "Catholic School". You've been misinformed. Nothing wrong with being a Muslim though. People act like that would have been a bad thing. Strange! Remember, there's no "religious test" for the presidency. At least not in theory. This mixing religion and politcals scares the heck out of me. Nothing but trouble as we've seen all over the middle east and elsewhere.

This is a Nation which markets religious freedom and the equality of all. but this is a Nation which has never lived up to these slogans, for which many thousands have died,in trying to force them onto other nations. it would appear that We the U.S. need to begin practicing what We so militaristically preach. indeed, so much for the sepertion of Church and State

MGD, this should clear it up for you, with reference.
"In Indonesia, I'd spent 2 years at a Muslim school, 2 years at a Catholic school. In the Muslim school, the teacher wrote to tell mother I made faces during Koranic studies. In the Catholic school, when it came time to pray, I'd pretend to close my eyes, then peek around the room. Nothing happened. No angels descended. Just a parched old nun and 30 brown children, muttering words. Sometimes the nun would catch me, and her stern look would force my lids back shut. But that didn't change how I felt inside.
