School administrators shift for new school year
Published Monday, August 25, 2008
New building sites won’t be the only changes for Fergus Falls District leaders.
Starting with the 2008-09 school year, Dean Monke, previously the middle school principal, will be serving as secondary school principal. Former high school principal Greg Winter will take the role of secondary school vice principal for grades nine through 12, with John Harris taking on the role of vice principal for grades sixth through eight.
Jon Harris, whose previous title was middle school vice principal, will now serve as secondary school vice principal for grades six through eight.
Former high assistant school principal Tindy Rund is moving over to the elementary schools to work as vice principal for Adams and Cleveland.
Scott Colbeck will remain principal for Adams and Cleveland schools.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by Brian (anonymous) on August 25, 2008 at 3:19 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Why so many principals? Please explain why we need a secondary school principal and secondary school vice principal?

It is because the principal and vice principal deal with different things, most schools have both, and possibly 2 or 3 vice principals when you start dealing with larger schools. Principals generally deal with staff and buildings and make the big decisions, and vice principals deal more with discipline and other student things. It is a little more conplicated than that, but that is basically how it has worked in the places that I have lived. I am personally really excited for this new set up with administrators. I wonder what is going on at McKinley, though, probably just left it out since there is preschool there, too.

Is it just me or have they not added a position? They eliminate the high school principal, but they've added an assistant elementary principal. Justify all you want, but they added another administrative position when they wanted it to appear as though they had made many administrative cuts.

Secondary School is what is grades 7-12 and there always has been principal and vice principal at these schools. I thought Mr. Winter took a job at DGF though. He announced he was leaving at the ALC graduation.

Who was the assistant principal at the elementaries? That's the position I believe was created.

Mr. Monke was the Principal at the Middle School and Mr. Colbeck was Vice Principal. Mr. Harris was the Principal at the Elementary level. Tindyl Rund will serve as the Vice Principal and that is the position that was created. I don't think there was a Vice Principal before at the elementary level. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
