I hardly think that someone yelling, falling down, and pee'ing on a pole sums up "Fergus Falls". It doesn't say he was drinking, but it sure sounds like drinking behavior. If that's the case, every town big or small has someone who drinks, falls down, and pees. I would suggest you just don't vote for him - if what you've just read bothers you any. Simple solution.

Skip can't comment however, because he's getting help, although I'm not sure what for based on the report - there were no drugs or alcohol mentioned. Hopefully he's getting help for public urination addiction, falling down in public syndrome, and Terets.

I didn't realize that Skip even had a job. Doesn't he get disability do to his "alcoholism"? Where does he even drink? Isn't he black balled from a few different bars? Maybe he should have less parties at his new girlfriends house and spend more time getting cleaned up.

WOW!!! I cannot believe the candidates for city offices that we are being asked to choose from this year. What is the filing fee? Just curious. Must be a few dollars($5 or $10?). This just seems like a total trainwreck, I'm sorry, just being honest here. Fergus Falls is better than this. Forget being the laughing stock of Minnesota, this is actally becoming the laughing stock of Fergus Falls. I remember growing up when we had REAL people running for office and managing our city and image like Kelly Ferber and Mel Olsen. This is downright embarrasing and I think that whoever is taking the filing fees needs to be given some MAJOR disgression as to who gets to run for a public office, and not just accepting money for a public display of wanton ignorance. There used to be people with integrity and morals who ran this town. It is just sad and depressing.

Skip was a friend of mine years ago; no issues, just faded away like old friends do, but I have to say back then he was an honest and decent guy, and was a welcome guest in my home on more than one occasion. Like all of us, Reps and Dems, he has imperfections. I chose to overlook them and call him a pal. I can't vote in Fergus, since I'm no longer a resident, but I certainly wish him luck!

What's real sad here is that if any of these boobs get elected we will be having recall elections/forced resignations etc. because they will either be too stoned or drunk to show up to meetings or even be mildly incoherent to understand what they're even doing IF they even make it to the meetings. I often wonder why I have seen so many meetings with council members missing.
would it be too much to ask our elected to submit to urine tests?

Skip did not stop driving to save gas money! Skip stoppped driving because he has had 2 DWIs. AS for his family maybe the domestic assault would explain why we aren't hearing from them. Cleaning up his girlfriends yard? The only reason he is cleaning it up is to have more fuel for his bon fires, this includes mattresses and plastic chairs. That is really great for the environment!

The Daily Journal does not censor anything, especially what they get from the Police station/Sheriffs office as that would be illegal, nor does it take bribes to keep record stories out print. Did the police not put the name of the "victim" in their report about the fellow who got beat up by the "19 year old girl" who came to look at his T.V. he had for sale on Craig's List???? Absolutely not!!! That person's name was on that report--the F.F.D.J. chose not to print that person's name, and that is censorship at it's finest....done only because this person has some prominent relatives in Fergus. Take a reality check. Newspapers censor and slant articles all the time.

Ivan "Skip" Mallas may have made some mistakes in his life, but can any of us say that we haven't ever made a mistake or done something stupid? Skip may have done things in the past and gotten in trouble, as some of you have pointed out. And he has a family and is not working now. I'm sure many of you know someone that makes mistakes or has had a hard time at some point in life.
All Skip is trying to do is help Fergus Falls. Darrel Johnson (sorry if name isn't spelled correct) is our building inspector, he is a drunk but still yet we elected him. I just named one person that has problems and still does his job, but we also allow him to without a fuss from us. I see Skip trying to help others. He is a caring person, who yes may have made a few mistakes. If any of you have never made a single mistake in life, let me know. We all make mistakes, that is how we learn.
Go ahead talk bad about Skip, but don't do so because people come on this page and say they are his campaign managers or supports. The facts are that Ivan wants to help Fergus Falls and he does care for this town. If he does get elected and we decide he shouldn't be, then impeach him. He's trying and thats a good thing. I'm not saying that you have to vote for Skip, all I am trying to say is don't go by what the people on here are all saying.

First let me address "Aladara"
Yes, people do make mistakes.. but if one of your mistakes is NOT PAYING YOUR CHILD SUPPORT then I do not see how you can sell your self as a great asset to this community. A running candidate, that wants to "better the community" then should start with paying his own child support, maybe our community would be helped if more fathers did this, then it would help our county with not giving so much assistance out (not saying all mothers that have no paying dead beat sperm doners, use assistance...) Another factor is many single mothers work 2 jobs just to pay the electric bill etc., Maybe it would be a wonderful role model if a candidate did not"Quit" his job to "run for election" why not show that you can be a strong role model, have a career, help the community and take care of your family. Yeah, he might be nice... but that does not mean he is right for the position?
This is to the Campaign team... I am even more saddened to know you work for the State of MN and have that kind of grammer skills... PLEASE... maybe you should really think about what you personally stand for, because a man that needs to get "help" because he cannot control himself, is not the person we need to represent us, he wants to help with the parks, but yet does a disgusting loitering movements!
I have not lived in this community long, but I am not impressed with idea that, this is someone people are actually considering! Maybe we should get out of the jr. high era, and decide that "change" is what this community needs, how about no more gossip, no more judgement, and put all of the energy people love to give to that and put that towards donations to help the community! Maybe if your names are printed for "glamour" you would be for it! Wake up! People are raising children and we need to think about the future of them, and what is offered right now.... is not looking that wonderful or rewarding!

Yes fathers should pay child support, I will agree with that. But you stick up for all the mothers. Not all mothers are perfect. Some would use assistance just to have it. Some put everyone and everything befor their kids. I don't know why Skip doesn't pay child support. Maybe we should be asking him these questions though, instead of just outting him for what others say. Do we know for a fact that he has children? Lets get facts not opinions and then maybe we can judge people.
And to be honest, this town is going down hill. Well the U.S. all together is. But Fergus Falls shoots down good ideas that could help this town, does not give kids much to do. We wonder why our kids turn to partying and drugs. We give them nothing to do, so what else are they going to do?

In fact, Skip does have children, I am know all 3 of them personally! Their mother divorced Skip while he was incarcerated, his kids were teenagers, they formed their own opions about their father. Since that time, all 3 hace graduated from high school, Skip was not invited to any of them. His daughter has gotten married, her brother walked her down the aisle, Skip was not invited; and, she has had 2 beautiful daughters that Skip has never and will never meet! His other daughter is getting married this winter, he is not going to be invited to that wedding either! If Skip's own children do not want to have anything to do with him and feel that he is a bad influence, there is obviously something to be a bit leary about.
Furthermore, I am not sure what the mayor of FF gets paid, but if it cuts into what Skip gets for disability, he will quit the job anyway!

Yes, there are so many opportunities available for this community to focus on to help give kids of all ages and even young adults, families, etc things to "change" to make better chioces. First, this town would need alot of growing up to do, and STOP THE NEGATIVITY of gossiping. Life is short, people make mistakes, bad choices are available out there and are addictive, if no one cares to "help" people just decide to give into the convienances of life instead of find solutions. We should be looking at the bigger picture, working on healthier lifestyles, education, and counseling for people who fall into the horrible circumstance of trying drugs... this is just my opinion, I just want to feel less worried about my childrens future in the place we call home.

Anyways lets put it this way, the people we have running our town right now, they are not running it very well. Its time for a change. So let me ask you this, why not take a risk that will most likely benefit you. Are you going to continue to be afraid of change? To make life better, you almost always have to take a big risk in life. What if Skip is the towns risk we need to take. I know him, personally and have for many years. No, I do not think THIS particular candidate is worth the risk, he offers nothing to make me believe he stands behind his word... First, if he wants to show a change himself and pay off his owed child support, and actually has a job... that to me would help me believe he is worthy enough to be on the roster. I do not see anything that this man has done to be beneficial, anyone can say "I will change the world for the better" and laugh while walking away... I am not uneducated, I am not easily fooled, I do believe in giving RESPECT when it is earned, I also believe in opening doors for elders and being polite... I am not at all afraid of change.. personally my life in the last two years has been full of change... it is learning to do it in a way that I am proud of who I am and what I stand for... so let me ask Skip Mallis... Are you honestly proud of what you represent and who you are, and what you have left unfinished with your past mistakes?" When I see that change... I will listen to what he preaches.
Aldara, unfortunately we do need to worry about what he does in his free time because he has put himself into a position to represent this community... what has he done so far? he has not even taken care of his biological responsibilitys, he has disgraced public property, and does not prove by "cleaning up his girlfriends yard" that his work ethic is logical.
If you have not noticed, I am not sticking up for any candidate at this time.. I am trying to "see" results...
There are so many programs and wonderful things this area has and I am so saddened to not see it being marketed in the way to make this community stronger and better!
The funny thing to me is, you have known him personally for years, but he never told you about his children! How sad is that! Even if the relationship with the mother did not work, why not be proud to share his life as a father? to me, that represents weakness along with being selfish. I, do not personally believe he is worth a vote.
