Republicans support Palin

Published Thursday, September 4, 2008

ST. PAUL — A host of big-named Republicans graced the stage Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention in support of the John McCain-Sarah Palin ticket and to defend the vice presidential candidate.

Palin has more experience in running a government than the Democratic ticket combined, said former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

“In choosing Gov. Sarah Palin for his running mate, Sen. McCain has chosen for the future,” he said.

As the Alaskan governor, Palin reduced taxes, reduced government spending, encouraged energy exploration and been one of the most active governors in the country, according to Giuliani.

She took on corruption even in the Republican party, he said.

“This is a woman who has no fear,” Giuliani said. “This is a woman who stands up for what’s right.”

The former New York mayor scolded the media for questioning if Palin has enough time to spend with her kids and become vice president.

“When do they ever ask a man that question?” he said.

Calling McCain a maverick, Giuliani said, “with him and Sarah Palin, can you imagine how they’re going to shake up Washington?”

Gov. Linda Lingle, of Hawaii, shared Palin’s personal story with Republican delegates from across the country.

“Sarah is a person with proven leadership skills and strong moral character,” she said.

Palin, according to Lingle, is genuine, authentic, comfortable in her own skin and not trying to reinvent herself during the campaign. She has integrity, strong values, intelligence, toughness and grace.

“Put simply, Sarah is a leader and a winner,” Lingle said, adding serving as mayor and governor are good preparations for higher office.

Palin has broad appeal within the Republican party, according to the Hawaiian governor, because she is a strong social conservative, adherent to her principals and a fiscal “hawk.” She appeals to independents, young people and women.

“Sen. McCain decided to look north to the future — which is Alaska’s motto — to find a truly transformative leader,” she said. “This choice is bold, historic and courageous.

“When the rest of America gets to know her, they would agree with me as you agree with me that Sarah Palin is going to be a great vice president.”

Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, said he’s tired of hearing about Palin’s inexperience, noting that she got more votes for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, than Sen. Joe Biden got for president.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney said McCain and Palin will keep America as it has always been, the hope of the earth. For decades, he said, Washington’s sun has been rising in the east, looking to eastern elites.

“If America really wants to change, it has to look for the sun in the west because it’s about to shine from Arizona and Alaska,” Romney said.

While Palin is spurring questions about McCain’s choice as a running mate, her colleagues are stepping up to support her and McCain on their quest for the White House.

Of course she took on corruption in the republican party, she knew where to look for it.

She's anti free speech, having tried unsuccessfully to ban books in Alaska.

She's anti America, having twice signed petition to have Alaska suceede from the United States.

She's anti women's productive rights.

She first supported the bridge to nowhere, actually congratulating the Senators who won the funding for the project, then she was against it after she was elected. She stated, "If Alaska wants to build a bridge, we'll do it with our own money". Then she kept the 232 million dollars awarded to the state specifically for that project, rather than give it back.

She's claims to be against 'earmarks', despite the fact that while she was mayor for a town smaller than Fergus she lobbied the U.S. Congress for 65 million dollars in earmarks.

The Republicans love to point out her executive experience by pointing out that she was the commander of the Alaska National Guard, despite the fact that for the twenty months that she's been governor, she hasn't issued one single order to the guard.

Republicans love to point out that while Barrack was a community organizer, she was already an elected official - which is blatantly false. While Barrack was a community organizer, she was a TV journalist.

The biggest difference between Obama's experience over the past 12 years versus Gov Palin's is, he played in the trash with his radical friends and Gov Palin threw out the trash in Alaska!

Madam President Palin has a good rang to it. Dimmo's smears and lies will not take this moose hunting All-American girl out. She's a natural and they are as scare as hell of her.

Please, don't insult my intelligence. She was a mayor of Hooterville, Alaska or whatever the name of that village is and has been described as a cross between a Fox New Anchor and one of those characters on Northern Exposure. She's only been the governor of Alaska which ranks 47th in population of the 50 States for 20 months. She thinks global warming is a myth. She wants abortion outlawed. She cut the Alaska budget for special needs kids by 65% while governor. Now she supports it. She can obviously handle herself in front of a camera with a written script full of lies and distorted truths. She is already under investigation for abuse of power. It's not surprising she was elected governor of Alaska. Her personal story is interesting, but; she's obviously completely unqualified to be VP to anyone with any common sense. She was asked if she thought she was qualified to be the VP and answered with a question "what does the VP do?" I wonder if she knows how to spell "potatoe?" These republicans seem to think she's off limits to the media. That's hysterical. She can lie with a straight face, so maybe she has something in common with McCain.

"Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, said he’s tired of hearing about Palin’s inexperience, noting that she got more votes for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, than Sen. Joe Biden got for president."

Where did this come from? Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

Maybe they should start teaching math and/or statistics in Arkansas?

Exegesis, I consider it only fair to warn you that your continued use of facts to back up your arguments will only result a withdrawal of any consideration you may have had for a position in a McSame administration.

I guess I'll live with that, and I kind of expect the exagerations, half-truths, etc., (particularly in the comment sections), but isn't this presented as a "news" item?

I realize the journal pulled this off a wire service, but doesn't anyone check to see if things are true before they say them anymore?

Of course the Republicans are going to support Palin, what choice do they have, McCain accepted the Republican nomimation running for the Presidential election and he is the one who chose Palin as VP. This is the same for the Democrats, what choice do you have, Obama was not my choice but that is who is nominated for the Democrats running for the Presidential election. Vote for what you believe in and stand for, listening to the personal trivial garbage of each political party's candidate is a waste of time and should not influence who and how you vote. Although both political parties are guilty of dredging up all kinds of dirt they can find out about each political party's candidate's personal life is amazing, but should be UN-ETHICAL CONDUCT AND NOT BE ALLOWED. The issues that need to be addressed by each political party's nominated cadidate have not even been addressed or have stated a realistic solution, they have been too busy mud slinging at one another to address these issues. The issues I am worried about and interested in hearing a realistic solution by each of the nominated Presidential candidates are: a fix to the US Economy and I think it will get way worse before it gets better, getting control over the illegal aliens entering the USA everyday and living off of taxpayer's dollars, fixing public education it is going in the toilet, public schools across the US are sturggling and they are seeking referendums left and right and levying property tax owners to support the public schools and property tax is sky rocketing, fixing health care in the US, it is very expensive and insurance does not cover enough, fix the high fuel prices, it is out of control and has made the cost of living sky rocket. Fuel has dove the price of everything up. Keep industries in the USA, keep employment up, these are the issues that need to be addressed by the polictal party's candidates. THESE ARE THE ISSUES THE WORKING CLASS AMERICANS ARE WORRIED ABOUT!!!!!

McCain and Palin have the right stuff to win this election. Obama and Biden are just more of the same old Washington big spending pork barrel, cronyism politics.
