Council voted with open minds on movie
Published Friday, September 5, 2008
This letter is in regards to the recent horror movie fiasco. I really wish you would lighten up a little, Fergus Falls.
You’re a bit too afraid of allowing anything different to happen in our city.
The chance for some extra revenue and a little action around here sounds pretty good to me. Hey, the outside world can actually be fun sometimes.
In my opinion, any college student worth their salt, regardless of origin, would be “thrilled,” to attend a school where a horror flick had been filmed. How interesting is that?
But, if not, imagine the terror they’ll experience when they discover their campus was once home to criminally insane mental patients. Some of whom, if I’m not mistaken, were responsible for a few horrific crimes themselves. Bloody murder among them, I’m sure.
It’s an antique mental institution folks, it can’t possibly have a pleasant history. So what’s worse — fact or fiction?
Oh, and here’s another scary little tidbit for you: Out there they have schools where film is actually taught as a form of art. Yikes, huh?
In closing, I have one last thing to say — Don’t be afraid. It’s called “fun,” people, and it won’t kill you.
My thanks to our council members who voted with open minds.
Leah Kenyon - Fergus Falls

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by tweber (anonymous) on September 5, 2008 at 12:19 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I agree. I believe the college students are capable of viewing a "PG" or "R" rated film without injury. C'mon council members, your over thinking this.

The headline as shown above (as of this posting, it reads, "Council voted with open minds on movie") is quite deceptive. We're led to believe Ms. Kenyon agrees with the outcome of the Council's vote, which she clearly does not. She appears to be thanking only the two council members who voted in favor of the proposed movie. Pay closer attention, please, Journal editors.

Thank you GrammarNazi. My sister wrote this letter and was so disappointed to read the mismatched headline that made her appear to approve of the decision. She did indeed mean to thank only those council members who voted in favor of the movie.
It's a shame that the city denied its residents this potentially fun experience. In a town where there is so little to do or smile about, it could've provided some relief to those not bestowed with the blessed gift of a stick up their a**.
